Is Thinking Outside The Box always the answer ? 😮 The team at the SubRacing Series recently received this unusual email, and we wonder if one of the team submarines has developed some AI capabilities..... From: Owlbacore@LostInTransit.com To: Socials@SubRacingSeries.com Subject: Hello! Is there anybody out there ? Hi, can anyone help me! My name is Owlbacore, and I come from Florida, but seem to have been stuck in this box for ages! I was crafted by the lovely students at the Florida Atlantic University this winter with the promise of 'fame and travel' during the summer. Their Captain, Twain Glas was really attentive to me, getting his team to constantly work out with me and adjust everything for a perfect fit. They gave me a really slim body and I think the make-up service really highlighted my best features and my natural colours. I was really looking forward to the flight to Europe until they put me in a wooden case and stuck me in the hold! If you though coach was bad you should see what in-flight service was like one floor down 🙁. We stayed somewhere with a great pool to swim about in, and I was able to show off in the water, and meet up with some other submarines who had made their journeys to the place they said was called 'QinetiQ'. Listening to the other girls who have taken a similar journey I realised that there are at least 28 of these teams of clever engineers, all trying to build a perfect model! But after all the fun, and getting lots of admiring looks, and a couple of offers were in the air, I was put back into the box with lots of tools and other strange boxes. I can't understand why they kept saying 'think outside the box' when all that happened was they put me in one! The 'Road Trip' to Germany with a couple of the other girls could have been a lot better, at least a window would have helped! And now it appears we are going to sit around here for a week before we go for a ride on a big boat! We are all looking forward to that as they say we are going to the Canary Islands! Fabulous! I read up on there and did you know it is about the same latitude as Miami in Florida and Sharm-el-Sheik in Egypt! I get to swim in the sea again, and if the swimming and diving is half of good there, then it should be great fun. And apparently we will be out in the sun when we get ready! A chance to show off and who knows who or what may come along and chat with us! I am really looking forward to this. They call it the Gran Canaria Invitational for human-powered Submarines, and tell me it is in Playa de Arinaga from the 16th to the 21st September, and the nice people we met from the Sub-Racing Series are running it, so a great team there to meet us. So if you are in the area come and see me, and who knows what arrangements can be made before i have to fly back home to Florida. Dón't forget to keep in touch! Owlbacore

One of my first and most important lessons in the adventure world: know your gear.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to making an effortless, safe back-roll entry. 1) Once you’re geared up, sit on the edge of the boat and face inward. Slide your body back so that you are seated near or slightly over the outer edge of the boat’s gunwale or pontoon. Just like a giant-stride entry, make sure all your gear is in place, including mask and fins. Make sure that all of your gauges, hoses and reg are secure. 2) Inflate your BC so you can maintain positive buoyancy once you’ve entered the water, and place your reg in your mouth. 3) Just as with a giant-stride entry, use the palm of your right hand to secure your reg and the fingertips of the same hand to keep your mask in place. Place your left hand over your mask strap at the back of your head, to stop the strap from slipping off upon entry, and to stop your head from hitting your cylinder valve. 4) Make sure that the water behind you is clear, especially if another diver has just entered before you. The divemaster or captain will let you know when to go, but it’s always a good idea for you to glance over your shoulder and make sure your entry spot is clear. If everyone is making their entry at the same time which is what usually happens when you are making a negative descent wait for the captain’s count or “go” command and do not hesitate. 5) Tuck your chin into your chest, which helps prevent your head from hitting the tank valve. Keep your feet and knees together (you can also cross your ankles), and lean backward, rolling into the water. The way you fall backward is the key to making a gentle entry. If you force yourself backward, you’ll flip, your legs will possibly continue rolling over your head, and you’ll do a disorienting underwater somersault. 6) If you’re making a positive entry, you’ll surface immediately, just as you do with a giant stride. Give the captain the OK signal. 7) Clear the entry area and check to make sure all your gear is still in place. 🌊 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 🐠 ❓What can diving teach us about success in our professional lives? ❓ In the depths of the ocean, surrounded by the tranquil blue, every diver knows that the most important thing is to focus on your breathing. It's a simple, yet profound lesson that holds true not just underwater, but in our professional lives as well. 🌟 When you're diving, the rhythm of your breath becomes your anchor, your guide. It teaches you to stay calm, be present, and remain focused. Distractions fade away, and you are left with the purity of the moment and the task at hand. 💼 For me, this is a powerful metaphor for our professional journeys. In the bustling world, filled with connections, posts, and opportunities, it's crucial to remember our own version of "breathing". Whether it's nurturing relationships, advancing your skills, or staying true to your core values, focusing on the main thing helps you navigate through the noise and find clarity. 🌍 Just as a diver trusts their breath to explore the wonders of the ocean, trust your focus to guide you through the depths of your career. Embrace the simplicity, stay present, and let go of distractions. The results will be as breathtaking as the underwater world. 🔑 What is your "main thing" that keeps you focused in your professional life? Share your thoughts in the comments! #FocusOnTheMainThing #ProfessionalGrowth #LinkedInMarketing #CareerClarity #DivingDeep

Ever stood at the edge of a diving board, your heart thumping hard? That moment is all about choice. Jump, and you risk the slap of cold water, maybe even a clumsy landing. But stay put? You're choosing to stay dry, safe, and exactly where you are. 🏊♂️💦 Here's the deal: life's not much different from that diving board. Taking action, trying something new, or chasing a dream – it's all a leap. Sure, you might flop, you might embarrass yourself, or you might find it tougher than you thought. But guess what? You tried. You learned. You lived. 🚀 Now, think about choosing not to act because you're scared to fail. Sounds safe, right? Wrong. It's the biggest failure of all. Why? Because you fail by default. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Not trying guarantees you stay exactly where you are, maybe forever. 🎯🚫 Choosing not to act is like saying no to life's big adventure. You're telling yourself you don't believe in your own power to change, to grow, or to make a difference. That's the real failure. It's choosing a life half-lived, dreams half-dreamed. 🌒 But when you act? You open doors. Maybe you'll find what you're looking for, maybe you'll find something you didn't even know you needed. And sure, maybe you'll fail. But even then, you’ll be miles ahead of those who never tried. Because every failure is a lesson, every mistake is a chance to get it right next time. 📚❤️ So, what's it gonna be? Will you jump into the great unknown, ready to ride the waves, whatever they bring? Or will you stay on the sidelines, wondering what could have been? Remember, those who act might risk failure, but those who don't act have already failed. Choose to leap. Choose to live. 🌟💥 #RiseOfTheRedNeo #TheAntifragileLife #IAmTheRedPill #NoMastersNoSlaves

Weekend! A time to take a break, relax, recharge, break the cycle, maybe try something different, new, awesome and challenging. If you’d ever like to take the step to expand your own mental, physical, and spiritual boundaries I’d highly recommend #Diving. Today’s sketch and a few lines are inspired by my own experience and awakening that I’d like to share through #DiveInstructed. Diving may just be an activity you want to scratch off your bucket-list, or something you’ve always thought of doing but your fear of deep water, the ocean, or the surreal creatures that you’ve seen on #NatGeo, #Discovery, #YouTube, or #SocialMedia may have left you awed and intrigued, but also fearful and doubting. Just like any other seemingly extreme task that seems impossible and terrifying at first, like overcoming the heebie-jeebies and speaking to your crush for the first time, or confronting a bully, learning to swim, to ride a bicycle or drive for the first time, asking your boss for a raise, proposing to your lover, your first time having sex, or even delivering your first key presentation. Diving is similar! Soon, it’s a skill set, a technique, a body of knowledge, maybe a survival skill you’ll have added to your repertoire. Try it to expand your senses, sharpen your instincts, develop techniques to overcome fear, stay calm and focused in challenging situations, enhance decision-making, augment your understanding of the natural world, reconnect with your true origins, arrive at a holistic perspective on the actual impact of human life and our own actions, and to awaken to the very nature of existence and the universe. Most importantly, considering #climatechange and growing instances of natural disasters, to #evolve. Who really knows what it’ll be for you! One thing’s for sure, it’s a brave step into the uncertain future. This summer, Jenn Thomson was involved in a plethora of Italian projects with Phreatic and SDSS: The Society for Documentation of Submerged Sites as a cave 1 diver and surface support (see Gemma Thomas’ last challenge video where she talked about our biospeleology project!). “Albeit surrounded by divers that were doing dives which I was way not qualified to do; there were other non-diving skills that I could bring to the team. For example, competencies in medical first aid, single rope technique, media, and photogrammetry. Even without diving on some missions, I gained so much experience with my role, and it was a privilege to help this team in some small capacity. And it just goes to show that whatever your level and skill, you can always contribute something meaningful to a project, increasing your value for the next time. Hope this inspires you to reach out to anyone and take part in other global projects!” “But what I will say is that some projects were exceedingly physically challenging – for example, at one point I found myself rock climbing up and down 10 m+/33 ft+ walls carrying tanks on my back. I have now made it my mission to become stronger and gain more muscle so I can help the team more! Fitness = increased diving capacity.” Stay active during GUE Fitness Month and beyond! Elevate your skills and strengthen your capacity to contribute more to your team. 💪 Music: Sweet Dreams by BatchBug Halcyon Dive Systems #DivingAdventure #CaveDiving #Teamwork #FitnessGoals #ExploreMore #UnderwaterExploration #StayActive #GlobalProjects #StrengthTraining #GUEFitForPurpose #DiveGUE

ARE YOU SITUATIONALLY AWARE? In scuba diving, situation awareness is a fundamental skill that keeps you safe and allows you to fully experience the underwater world. It’s about constantly monitoring your environment, tracking air supply, managing depth and staying alert to changing conditions. You anticipate potential challenges before they become threats, making real-time adjustments to ensure a safe and successful dive. As a qualified Solo diver I plan my dive and carry multiple contingincies, including 2 separate air sources, 2 dive computers, 2 compass, multiple safety devices and markers, but what I don’t have is my buddy - the person (or team/community) who looks out for me (am I for them), becomes the eyes in the back of my head, supports me if something goes wrong and so forth. Entrepreneurship is remarkably similar. Many of us run Solo businesses, collaborate with others, employ people and require ‘buddies’ to support us. Success in business also requires keen awareness of market trends, competition, internal resources and customer needs. Just as a diver must be mindful of every breath, entrepreneurs must monitor their resources and adapt to an ever changing landscape. Failing to stay aware can lead to missed opportunities, poor decisions, or worse, business failure. In both diving and entrepreneurship, it’s not just about reacting to what’s happening around you, but anticipating what could happen next. The ability to stay grounded, focused, and proactive can make the difference between sinking and swimming. By cultivating situation awareness, you can navigate challenges, seize opportunities and build resilience in both underwater adventures and the business world. Awareness isn’t just a skill, it’s a mindset that ensures long-term success and safety. With less than 7 days until our collaborative book project launches I am delighted to share the launch date: Friday Sep 27, 1:45 PM UK time. Here is the registration link. I'd be delighted if you come join us. https://lnkd.in/eikZZKK4 #SOHKBB #situationalawareness #resilience

Greg’s thought of the day! What is up, and what is down? Up and down will vary to everyone, based upon where they are, and what is in front of them. If you are at the base of a big hill, then, to you, everything is up, and you’re at the bottom. You are only at the base of what you can see. If you are diving, what you think is up, could actually be down, and the only way to see up from down, is to what the direction your bubbles go, or your dive watch. Heading in the wrong direction, here, could end in your death, as could heading in an alternate direction up a hill that ends in a cliff. We need, as in diving, stop and see the direction to go to live, and the direction for your success. Choose wisely, as the wrong one could land you deeper than you can get out of. Up and down is individual to all, but your choice of where to go , from a given starting point is also yours. Going around a steady path to the top of a hill , will still get you there, but safely. Going straight up one side, may get you there quicker, but you risk falling. Choose the right path Choose your life direction Be happy with it

When diving deep usually our first thought is to start feeling stressed, tense and panic. But if we do this, we will waste our energy and black out, which is dangerous for life. So, how to control this fear? 👀 First of all, you should understand, that freedivers (at certain depths) are not by accidents. It takes a lot of months or years of practice to be there. It also means that they’re already prepared, learned a few techniques that I recommend you to learn as well. This technique will help you to stay calm. It is called BODY SCAN, something freedivers start to learn from the very first steps in freediving. And it’s just being aware of your body, fighting tensions and being able to relax fast. It is attention deconcentration, something that freedivers start to learn in Wave3 in Molchanovs freediving programs and that’s something that allows you to control tension, not to be distracted by anything you don’t want to affect you dive and and being able to direct a lot of attention to your body, increase level of awareness, sensitivity and being able to ignore the signals that distract your dive. It can be burning in the legs, fatigue, urge to breathe, but with good attention training and being able to direct attention in the necessary areas you’re not distracted by these signals that can harm your dive.
