Did you know? OptoScale cameras aren't just valuable to fish farmers; they're also a key tool for documenting R&D projects in the field. As a company born from R&D, we’re passionate about these projects, as they have the potential to drive the industry closer to the future we envision for food production, our planet, and most important for me personally: our kids. This week, at the Fiskeri- og havbruksnæringens forskningsfinansiering conference in Tromsø, several exciting projects were presented, many of which were supported by data from OptoScale's AI-powered cameras (BioScopes). Few in the industry have more combined experience in production and R&D than Aunsmo Arnfinn from Salmalytics. In a recent project, he led research on the effects of Previwo's product, Stembiont, showing promising results in reducing lice numbers in collaboration with Emilsen Gruppen. Here’s what Arnfinn had to say about using OptoScale cameras in the project: "We are establishing a robust foundation for analyzing results. This represents a significant improvement in how we study effects under field conditions." I couldn’t have said it better myself! A huge thanks to all the project participants. If you’re working in R&D and interested in data-driven insights from our BioScopes, reach out to me or our biology team, including Audhild Blomsø and Ola Kvaal Brandshaug. Do mosquitos bug you? Do you also dislike the feel of bug spray on your skin? In our work titled "Designing Thermoreversible Gels for Extended Release of Mosquito Repellent," we detail the design and preparation of insect repellent-loaded physical gels that demonstrate mosquito repellency for more than half a year—performing longer than any other known material to date! Being the first instance towards utilizing gelled morphologies for protection against biting arthropods, this manuscript can pioneer a new lineage of long-lasting insect-repelling semi-solids that can also mitigate direct skin contact through fixation onto garments or shelters, thus eliminating the health hazards associated with dermal absorption of topically applied repellent. https://lnkd.in/eeXnDTzC

Check out my spring seminar talk (https://lnkd.in/gwA3sqJv) on potential applications of vibrational communication in pest stink bug species, now on the OSU hort dept website. Can stink bug mating calls be used to disrupt courtship? Improve trap efficacy? I discuss the evidence in my presentation, which is the first half of the May 6th recording (followed by Kelley Asselin discussing lure development for ambrosia beetles).
