#TeamSuffolk had a busy weekend helping families on Long Island prepare for Thanksgiving! 🦃🍂 Our team joined forces with the Suffolk County Police Department 7th Precinct to distribute Thanksgiving meals, ensuring local families had everything they needed for the holiday. We also joined the Community Ambulance Company Inc. at their annual Turkeys for Vets event, helping to distribute turkeys and various sides to veterans and military families. Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude and giving, and we’re thankful for the opportunity to support and give back to our community during this special season! 💜 #EmpoweringYourPossible #SuffolkSmiles #CreditUnionDifference

Here at Combat Stress, we recognise that difficult life events can result in self-criticism and strong feelings of anger and shame. Shame can cut us off from the support and understanding of other people, and it can become difficult to be compassionate towards ourselves. This may be particularly hard for veterans who have experienced trauma or moral injury during their military service. Click here to read about how we help veterans understand the effects of traumatic experiences and develop self-compassion skills: https://ow.ly/t8I650THAJ8 #compassion #compassionfocusedtherapy #veteranscharity

Salute your veteran patients by asking the question: have you or a close family member ever served in the military? Screening for military service — or the Ask the Question Campaign — is a movement that the MN Firearm Safety & Suicide Prevention Coalition (of which the MN Academy of Family Physicians is a part) & veteran-supporting organizations are encouraging in order to identify #veterans & their family members in non-VA health care settings. Over 35% of veterans are battling arthritis, making it a major health concern within the military community. From traumatic injuries to overuse, the physical demands of military service can contribute to this debilitating condition. But here’s the good news: The VA offers disability benefits to veterans with arthritis. And there are plenty of resources to help you manage your symptoms and improve your quality of life. So, if you're a veteran suffering from arthritis, don't hesitate to file a claim. Your service deserves recognition. Mention a fellow veteran who needs to know this! #awareness #veteransupport #militaryveterans

Only 30% of veterans receive the disability benefits they deserve. Despite serving our country, many veterans struggle to connect their conditions to their military service, leaving them without the support they need. ↳ A Nexus Letter is a game-changer. ↳ It links a veteran’s disability to their service, providing the critical medical evidence necessary for benefit claims. ↳ This document can significantly bolster a claim and is often the key that unlocks the door to the benefits veterans have earned. Understanding the importance of a Nexus Letter can empower veterans to take charge of their health and well-being. If you’re a veteran or know someone who is, make sure they are aware of this crucial tool. #Veteran #VetDisability #MilitaryService #VeteranBenefits #NexusLetter

Veteran suicide prevention starts upstream. Part of how Veterans Bridge Home ensures we are meeting the needs of #transitioningservicemembers is by connecting with them in their first year of transition outside of #militaryservice. I've, personally, committed to moving the needle forward for #veterans in the Charlotte community by becoming a #BattleBuddy. The Battle Buddy program promotes the resilience of #servicemembers through connecting #transitioningveterans to a network of good people and trusted partners to assist with making connections (#employment, #housing, #VABenefits assistance, #education, #healthcare). So if you meet a #veteran, a Veteran family member, or Servicemember who needs help connecting to #CareerResources, #HumanServices, or #CommunityEngagement, and you don't know where to send them - send them to Veterans Bridge Home! https://lnkd.in/e6U6KYJ4 #BeTheBridge #VeteransBridgeHome #veteranshelpingveterans
Veteran Bridge Home is both a leader and participant in local and state initiatives like the Mayor’s Challenge and Governor’s Challenge to Reduce Suicides among Service Members, Veterans and their Families (SMVF). Growing one’s skills as a battle buddy is part of an upstream approach that promotes the resilience and post-traumatic growth of our military and veteran families through a network of good people and trusted partners by which SMVF make the connections they desire (jobs, housing, education, healthcare, etc.) to thrive. #veteransbridgehome #VBH #veterans #suicide #suicideprevention

#ICYMI, We share concerns from many experts & advocates following last week's #SCOTUS decision to strike down #JohnsonVGrantsPass. It will surely have devastating impacts on unhoused people in this country — many of whom also struggle with #foodinsecurity. Those who are unhoused are vulnerable in so many ways, which often includes struggling to put feed themselves and their families. Punishing people who struggle is anathema both our Jewish and American values. As our friends at @NCHVorg and @UCLA_Law pointed out, many of America’s #veterans who fought for our country will be impacted by this decision. They deserve support — not barriers or punishments — as they reintegrate into civilian life following military service. The #JohnsonVGrantsPass decision represents the cruelty towards & desire to stigmatize those most in need. It mirrors and emboldens rhetoric we see and hear every day, and it emboldens us to continue to fight for #veterans & all those who are struggling.

Operation Nourish Our Heros Network 🇺🇸 What inspired my initiative? Operation Nourish Our Heroes Network was inspired by witnessing firsthand the challenges many veterans face. As a Veteran of the United States Air Force, I have a deep appreciation for their sacrifices, which has fueled a passion for supporting these brave individuals in my community. This initiative is rooted in a profound sense of duty and a commitment to give back by ensuring that our veterans have access to the nourishment they need. What impact will it have on the community? The campaign will have an enormous impact the veterans community in Pennsylvania. By providing meals to veterans in need, we aim to alleviate stress and ensure their well-being. This operation is a way to show our veterans that their service is valued and appreciated. By addressing food insecurity, we can help prevent the mental health challenges that often develop when basic needs go unmet. Ultimately, this campaign aspires to create a lasting, and positive impact on the lives of those who have given so much for our country. #veterans #duty #commitment #kindness #compassion
