Being a frequent traveller, I got to use all the major airlines of India, except the relatively newer Akasa. Earlier when we had Kingfisher, GoAir, Jet Airways, Air Asia among the major, and some minor ones like TruJet and Air Costa, there was a stiff competition in offering the best fares across the third party travel sites and the airliners’ respective apps. Eventually Kingfisher was grounded due to debts, Jet Airways was beleaguered, and GoAir is also out from the market. The existence of SpiceJet and Akasa these days is almost clueless. Currently the duopoly of good for nothing airlines IndiGo and Air India is going on. Vistara served for a decade as an only hope for a decent aircraft with polite and professional staff, and better ground and inflight services. It has actually filled the void created by Jet Airways by offering premium feel at not so high fares. Despite Tata’s takeover, Air India still remained the same as it was prior to this. Now the confirmed merger of Vistara with Air India will have severe repercussions in the aviation sector. If we hope that AI will elevate to Vistara’s standards, we are wrong as it will surely be the other way round. Visatara will be put down to AI’s standards or even below, similar to how Air Asia was wiped out. AI should have considered Air Asia and Vistara as different verticals under the Tata’s ownership. You are free to disagree, but looking at the whither scenario, my perception won’t change easily. #vistarashouldremainvistara #vistaraairlines

Vistara, the premium airline born from the collaboration between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, operates its final independent flight today (November 11, 2024). From tomorrow, all Vistara routes, services, and bookings will be fully merged into Air India, marking a significant shift in India's aviation landscape. Passengers who booked Vistara flights after November 11 will be transitioned to Air India, with flight numbers now beginning with AI (e.g., UK 955 becomes AI 2955). Vistara’s loyalty program and co-branded credit cards will also be integrated into Air India's system by the end of the year. As the two airlines combine to become the country’s sole full-service carrier, Vistara bids farewell, leaving behind a legacy of top-tier service and unforgettable experiences. Indian aviation has taken quite a journey over the years. With Vistara - TATA SIA Airlines Ltd. integration into Air India, Air India Limited has become the only full-service airline flying the Indian skies. Here’s a look at what this shift means: ✈️Full-Service Era Narrowing: Air India’s soon-to-be solo status in the full-service category highlights a big shift, as many travelers now prefer budget airlines for shorter, cost-effective trips. ✈️Budget Airlines Take Flight: IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) and other low-cost carriers are winning over passengers who are all about efficiency and savings, making full-service carriers a rare find. ✈️Blurring Boundaries: The lines between low-cost and full-service airlines aren’t as clear anymore. Several budget airlines now offer business class seats, once exclusive to premium airlines. ✈️International Partnerships: Vistara’s merger with Air India also means Singapore Airlines will now have a 25.1% stake, showing strong global faith in India’s aviation market. With travel demand on the rise, Air India’s unique spot as the last full-service airline could mean a new era of premium flying. It’ll be interesting to see if they can offer something truly special as budget airlines continue to optimize costs with streamlined operations and add-on services.🛫 🤔How do you think Air India will redefine the premium experience? #AirIndia #IndianAviation #CivilAviation #AirTravel #LinkedinforCreators

Goodbye Vistara - TATA SIA Airlines Ltd.: The End of an Era in Indian Aviation ✈️💔 🛫 Yesterday marked Vistara's final flight, closing the curtain on a premium airline that redefined quality in Indian skies. Launched in 2015, Vistara quickly carved out a niche with its exceptional service, gourmet meals, and luxurious cabin experience. In just 9 years, it became a favorite among Indian passengers, and today, the Vistara brand is celebrated for its loyal customer base and commitment to a premium flying experience. 🤝 Now, as Vistara merges into Air India Limited, passengers and analysts alike are left wondering if the Vistara ethos will survive in Air India’s hands. While promises of a seamless merger abound, only time will reveal whether the Air India brand can live up to Vistara’s high standards. 📉 This merger, however, reshapes an already concentrated market. With Air India and IndiGo now controlling over 90% of market share, Indian aviation has turned into a near-duopoly, leaving little competitive ground. For the 3rd largest domestic aviation market in the world, the options are surprisingly few. Airlines like SpiceJet and Akasa Air account for less than 7% combined, while three major players—Kingfisher, Jet Airways, and Go First—have gone bankrupt in just over a decade. 🤔 As we bid farewell to Vistara, questions loom: Will Air India honor the Vistara legacy? And in a high-demand market with few choices, can new entrants hope to thrive amid IndiGo’s upcoming premiumization and market dominance? #vistara #Airindia #Aviation #indigo #airlines #spicejet #akasaair

On November 11, 2024, Vistara operated its final flight under its iconic brand, marking the end of a remarkable journey. Known for its top-tier service, Vistara has been a key player in elevating India’s aviation standards. As the airline merges with Air India, Singapore Airlines will hold a 25.1% stake in the newly expanded Air India. Over 115,000 passengers with Vistara tickets will now fly under the Air India name — but don’t worry, the Vistara experience will remain the same. Vinod Kannan, Vistara’s CEO, will continue guiding the airline’s integration, ensuring a smooth transition into the next chapter of Indian aviation. Deepak Rajawat, Vistara’s CCO, transitions to CFO of the newly expanded Air India Express. Good bye Vistara Vistara grew at a scorching pace. With a fleet comprising mainly brand new A 320 and a few larger aircrafts added subsequently, the airline carved out a niche for itself in the hearts of flyers, attributable to Singapore Airlines’ guidance and support and Tata Group’s known customer centricity! Virtually in no time, the airlines became a preferred partner for frequent as well not so frequent flyers. In fact, it bridged the vacuum that was caused by unceremonious closure of two of the best airlines India ever experienced - Jet and Kingfisher. With the last domestic as well as international flights of Vistara having been consummated on the 11th instant, its merger with Air India is now complete. Like so many glorious and a few not so glorious precedents- Modiluft, Damania, East West, Air Deccan and more recent Jet and Kingfisher, Vistara stands consigned to the annals of history. Air India, under Tatas, is still seemingly a little distanced from leading the country’s aviation ambitions. As I read somewhere, “ Tatas should make Air India like Vistara and not vice versa.” With Akasa and Spice Jet still having very small footprints, it will take some time for Indian flyers to be spoilt for choices that’s currently seemingly limited to Indigo and Air India.

Air Vistara recently ceased operations as part of its merger with Air India. But why did a well-performing airline decide to cease operations ? The Tata Sons group and Singapore Airlines entered a joint partnership to launch a new full-service airline back in 2013, officially starting Vistara in 2015. The airline's main target audience was corporate and business travellers commuting across major cities in India. In 2021, the Government of India invited bids to privatize the state-run airline, Air India, due to financial challenges and mounting debts. The Tata Group, which already owned two airlines (Vistara and AirAsia India), successfully won the bid and re-acquired Air India (which had originally been under Tata ownership from 1932 to 1945). The acquisition of Air India also included its low-cost subsidiary, Air India Express. With this, the Tata Group held stakes in four airlines—two full-service carriers (Air India and Vistara) and two budget carriers (Air India Express and AirAsia India). The airline industry is one of the toughest businesses to sustain, requiring complex management of various aspects. To streamline operations, the Tata Group decided to merge Vistara with Air India in the premium segment and AirAsia India with Air India Express. By merging the airlines, the Tata Group can manage assets and resources more efficiently, covering aircraft, ground services, crew, and airport facilities. This consolidation also strengthens their overall market share in the aviation sector. Vistara had built strong brand value, known for its premium cabin and in-flight services. On coming across a X thread ( former twitter ) by FinFloww, the Tata group decides to stick to the Air India given the historical significance of the airline in India, and being the global pioneer of luxury air travel in the 1970s and 1980s. Hopefully, the next phase of Air India will match or surpass the service quality that Vistara was known for. #Aviation #BusinessCaseStudy #AirIndia #Vistara #TataGroup

🚨 India’s aviation landscape just changed overnight! Vistara is shutting down. Here’s what happened and why this matters for travelers 👇 Founded in 2013, Vistara aimed to redefine Indian air travel with a premium experience. It became a go-to for those looking beyond low-cost carriers. So, why shut down a growing airline? 👀 1️⃣ The Merger: Vistara is joining forces with Air India. Under Tata Group’s vision, they’re consolidating to become a global giant, leveraging Air India’s international network. 2️⃣ Market Strategy: Instead of competing domestically, they’re aiming to create a more powerful Indian brand globally, combining Vistara’s quality and Air India’s reach. But will this be the end of premium service in Indian aviation? ✈️ Tata promises that the new, revamped Air India will uphold Vistara’s high standards. Frequent flyers have their fingers crossed! 🤞 What do you think—smart move, or a loss for Indian aviation?

3moThat's so true. We have stopped using flight option within india (unless there is any emergency). We are covering distances like Delhi to Kolkata or Delhi to Bangalore also by car. No rush to buy tickets in advance, no bad feeling about unfair play of ticket hike during all common and uncommon holidays. Better sightseeing and relaxed transportation.
