I managed to get into work yesterday afternoon so did some more training with Mark with him using a Lift RES Q, these in house training events are hugely important, we use the equipment and can see the pitfalls. In this case it highlights that we should always use our beam clamp or have another anchor point fitted to the I beam itself if we use the structure only. Usually we are attaching to a davit but our 20 ton welded shackle is great for testing our load arresters but too thick for a normal karabiner to attach and 2 connectors should never be used together, even though when used in direct tension shouldn't pose the same risks as fall arrest. But this shows how easy up and down access can be achieved, especially if you use a power drill. This unit can be used for rescue of a suspended casualty or if the unit itself is anchored to the beam it becomes an auto descender. That makes it ideal for emergency evacuation, but if it's going to be used like this it is critical that the rope length is specific for the task, your RAMS or supplier should have determined this prior to ordering. We trial the equipment we offer to ensure we know exactly what it can and can't do, operational issues of the product and where it comes into it's own making it the correct choice for some applications we have enquiries for. When purchasing any life safety equipment you should always be offered what will be fit for purpose and this can only be achieved by a full understanding of the site and application. We have a wide range of manufacturers products available, quite deliberately so, that way we can match the correct equipment to your specific requirements. Understanding exactly how these products work is key to everything as some may seem similar but have certain aspects of operation, build quality or SWL that wouldn't make them the best choice. Our training on the Lift RES-Q was to compare it to the RS550 they both look very similar, so a full understanding allows us to select correctly which is best suited for specific applications. SOLAS Drills This chapter delves into the drills and exercises mandated by the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). It focuses on the importance of these drills in promoting ship safety, security, and the well-being of crew members. The chapter covers various SOLAS drills, detailing their objectives, execution procedures and evaluation criteria. By understanding the SOLAS requirements, participants will be better equipped to conduct these drills effectively and ensure compliance with the convention's guidelines. * Fire Drill 5 minutes * Lifeboat and Liferaft Drill 4 minutes * Muster Drills 4 minutes * Abandon Ship Drill 4 minutes * Emergency Steering Drill 4 minutes * Intact Stability Drill (Damage Control) 4 minutes * Man Overboard Drill 4 minutes * Enclosed Space Entry Drill 4 minutes * Blackout Drill 10 minutes Engine Room Flooding Drill 4 minutes.

This shows 2 differently rated SFS travellers, the large picture left is rated for a 150kg user, but has a minimum weight rating of 70kgs, the traveller being worn by Mark Richmond right is the old 100kg user rated traveller. These weights are suited and booted not just the user weight, so be careful to include the tools you are carrying with you, so even simple things like this need to be understood to ensure that your workforce is fully protected. Whilst the old travellers can be used they are no longer for sale as SFS decided to only certificate the newer traveller. So, if any of your workforce are under 70kgs the system will not function correctly for them and they don't have anything that will work for them unless you can find some old stock. This particular ladder system is safer than some as the traveller passes over the line stay without the need to remove the wire from the clip and reclip it after it's passed it. Whilst the traveller is never taken off of the wire as you ascend or descend it does still add in complexities that do not need to happen. If your RAMS are task specific they will take account of all of these things and deliver the system that is most suited to your particular application. Our team have been on site this week installing ladder systems for clients after conducting surveys to ensure they will be fit for purpose and cover rescue scenarios. This picture isn't of one on site as we haven't taken pics yet. Ladder systems when installed correctly will greatly increase safety for the user but only if they are specified correctly and users may still need to take a PFL, Personal Fall Limiter, with them to ensure safe transfer. Some ladder systems may terminate level with the platform and require an extension so that the wearer isn't subjected to an increased risk when trying to disconnect. Some of these extensions may require an anchor point to connect a PFL to, to safely traverse to a safe area away from a fall risk. You may also need to remove the hoops so that if a fall takes place where the wearer has knocked themselves unconscious, the rescuer can ascend above them to connect the rescue system. I may hear you say well that's more dangerous than just climbing the ladder without the system! That of course is not the case as if the person had fallen without a system they would have fallen back to the floor and as the HSE report identified the hoops would have only added to the injuries prior to hitting the floor. But I suppose you could say they are down, albeit more than like no longer living!!!!!! Fire hydrant tests on ships are crucial for several reasons I drafted a few basic ones 1. Operational Readiness: Regular testing ensures that all fire hydrants, hoses, and nozzles are in place, properly arranged, and in serviceable condition. This readiness is vital for immediate response in case of a fire emergency. 2. Pressure and Flow Verification: Testing confirms that fire pumps can supply adequate pressure and flow. This is essential to ensure that the fire main system can deliver water effectively to combat fires. 3. Safety Compliance: Adhering to regulations like SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) ensures that the ship meets international safety standards. Regular tests help maintain compliance with these regulations. 4. Maintenance and Inspection: Regular tests help identify any issues with the fire protection system, such as leaks, blockages, or equipment failures, allowing for timely maintenance and repairs. 5. Crew Training: Conducting fire hydrant tests during drills helps train the crew in the proper use of firefighting equipment, enhancing their preparedness and response capabilities. These tests are part of a broader maintenance plan that includes weekly, monthly, and annual inspections to ensure the fire protection system's reliability and effectiveness. #hydrant #ship #sailing #firefighting #test #includes #sea #lifeatsea #seafarers #Seaman #training #trainingretrain #unions

The programme was designed by Linewatch and LSBUD (Linesearch BeforeUdig), with advice and guidance from the Utility Strike Avoidance Group (USAG), to help the utilities and construction industries work more safely when digging. Completely free and able to be completed at your own pace, the course is a great introduction to safe digging for anyone new to the industry or who just wants to brush up on their knowledge. ➡ https://lnkd.in/g4A6vaT #utilities #construction #training #safetytraining #pipelinesafety #saferwithlinewatch

Shipyards, often located in coastal cities and along major waterways, have historically been hubs for shipbuilding and repairs, where asbestos was widely used. Key locations include ports in states like Virginia, California, Louisiana, Texas, Maine, and Washington, where shipyard workers were regularly exposed to asbestos in insulation, boilers, and piping on Navy, commercial, and civilian vessels. These workers face heightened risks of mesothelioma and lung cancer due to long-term exposure. If you or a loved one were affected, Madeksho Law can help you pursue compensation. Learn more in our latest blog. https://lnkd.in/gWn2ExrE
