A challenge of table tennis with Santa Claus? This was an event in Decathlon Bedok, where shoppers can challenge Santa Claus when you spend more than $60. The winner gets a $10 gift card. I have not played table tennis for 10 years. I knew that he was a very good player, as I have seen shoppers challenge him. Like the other shoppers, I did not win the game. I thought this was like research too. You know discoveries are hard to make. You know that top tier journals are hard to get in. You know that grants are challenging to get. As scientists, you may try many times to get an experiment working. You may try many times to get your paper published or a grant accepted. Moreover, there are other researchers you are competing against who may be better than you, more established than you and have more connections than you... But if you don't start trying, how do you even have a successful outcome? 🙃 Hope this gives you some inspiration to try out something new in the new year! Frustration with Tennis Court Availability Yesterday was meant to be a fun family day out on the tennis courts. I bought new rackets and balls, and took my wife and our four daughters to play tennis. Our excitement quickly turned to frustration. First, we went to a park where the courts are usually free. To our surprise, they were being renovated. The entrance was locked, and the nets were down. Disappointed but still hopeful, we headed to another park known for its great free courts. We arrived at 6:40 PM only to find the courts padlocked with a new payment passcode entry system. After trying to sort it out, we were told there were no bookings available until 7 PM on Sunday despite all 4 courts being empty. As someone who is normally very cool-headed, I found myself extremely frustrated. How is this setup encouraging youth to play tennis? I understand the need for court maintenance, but adding a payment barrier seems counterproductive. This will certainly deter many from picking up the sport. Today, of all days, with the Wimbledon final and the Euro final, I can't help but reflect on how this situation is discouraging the future generation from getting off their phones and into sports. #Tennis #Availability #Inclusion

Fined for playing Pickleball on tennis courts? We get it, these courts are designed for a specific sport. Do we blame them? No. Sounds drastic maybe but these P ballers want to play and with 900 members is this particular area, to them it’s justifiable. And these are not the only tennis courts around the country sitting unused and desolate. TWO QUESTIONS: Why are these tennis courts bare/available? Where is the tennis programming? ✅A gap exists between the leading tennis organizations and the real world as these questions cannot be answered. Our company can bridge this gap. Currently, the East Central ISD tennis courts are cracked and deteriorating, creating an unsafe playing surface and can no longer be patched or repaired. Deteriorating tennis court conditions have forced the district to host tournaments elsewhere. When the district holds tournaments, they often run long because half of the courts are unlit and unusable after dark. Prop D would build new tennis courts with lighting for all courts. It's show and tell Wednesday. Last week, one of our youth baseball clubs, who also hosts a few high school tournaments each Spring, asked if we could make tournement registration and tracking easier.
