Voting is important for several reasons: Representation: It allows citizens to elect representatives who will make decisions on their behalf in government at all levels. Accountability: It holds elected officials accountable for their actions and decisions, as they know they can be voted out of office if they do not serve their constituents well. Participation: It encourages active participation in the democratic process, fostering a sense of civic duty and responsibility. Influence: It gives individuals the opportunity to influence policies and laws that affect their lives, communities, and society as a whole. Equality: It ensures that everyone's voice is equal, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, gender, or any other factor. Overall, voting is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of democracy, enabling citizens to shape the future of their nation. 🙏🙏🙏

CA Tittle: Political Equality The video is all about Political Equality, its features and how Political Equality has an effect in the country. Political equality refers to the principle that all citizens should have equal rights and opportunities to participate in the political process, regardless of their background, wealth, or social status. It is a fundamental concept in democratic societies, emphasizing the idea that every individual's voice should carry equal weight in shaping public policies and decisions. Political equality ensures that each person has an equal chance to vote, run for office, express their opinions, and influence the direction of their community or country. This principle is essential for promoting fairness, justice, and inclusivity in governance, aiming to create a level society where everyone is treated fairly and equally under the political system. At the current rate of progress, it will take up to 286 years to close gaps in legal protection and remove discriminatory laws, 140 years for #women to be represented equally in positions of power and leadership in the workplace, and 47 years to achieve equal representation in national parliaments. This simply isn’t good enough. To promote #GenderEquality, we must reform global funding mechanisms and prioritise women’s representation in decision-making. Global Public Investment can be part of the answer: https://lnkd.in/e7q6W_fE #CSW68 Global Nation Global Public Investment Network Fionna Smyth

We need politicians who don’t make us choose between women’s rights and a stable economy, between empowering women and a culture of merit, between learning from the past and freedom of speech. These values support and reinforce each other, and we need politicians who reflect that. We need to support politicians that reflect that.

Quotas can strengthen the participation of underrepresented groups in political decision-making, but the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Without other support systems, quotas don't always automatically improve the targeted group's opportunities to influence political processes. Also, authoritarian countries may promote political inclusion only to increase the legitimacy of the authoritarian government. Iida Kalmanlehto's blog explores the pros, cons and good practices of quotas in decision-making. #democracy #inclusion #GenderEquality

Equality Impact Assessments: Why are they important? Under Public Sector Equality Duty, it is essential that companies buy into equality; ensuring that their policies and procedures show due regard to eliminating discrimination, fostering good relations between people who have PC and those who don't, and creating equality of opportunity between those who have PC and those who don't. Equity is good for everyone!

📣 We, the undersigned human rights and civil society organisations, urgently call upon the newly elected Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and their respective political groups to actively support the reestablishment of the Anti-racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI) in the European Parliament. This intergroup has played an important role in the past mandate in promoting and safeguarding human rights, racial equality and non-discrimination in EU policies. In the post-EU elections political environment, where principles of justice and equality are challenged and where the most marginalised are disproportionately harmed by policies and institutional practices, it is imperative to acknowledge the rise of the far right and its normalisation in the European Parliament. These forces have built their electoral campaigns by scapegoating racialised groups, threatening the very fabric of our democratic society. Now, more than ever, we need a strong coalition of MEPs in the European Parliament who will resist and champion equality, inclusion, and justice. Most recently, the violence against migrants and asylum seekers, discrimination in sports and many key areas of life, the surge of far-right extremism, and the targeting of racialised communities are clear indicators of the dangerous path Europe is on concerning human rights. We support the decision of the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s to reappoint a Commissioner for Equality, ensuring continued focus on equality, anti-discrimination, anti-racism. We also acknowledge the collaborative efforts between DG Justice and the ARDI Intergroup in the past mandate. However, despite these efforts, equality in Europe remains more of an aspiration than a reality. As long as racism, discrimination, and social exclusion are deeply entrenched in our society, we remain far from achieving a Union of equality. In light of this, the re-establishment of the ARDI Intergroup is key to ensure that the European Parliament continues to be a leader in promoting equality, diversity and non-discrimination. We must protect #OpenSociety in which all individuals are respected. #IdentityPolitics further increases already existing divisions within our society by emphasizing group interests over individual rights. This fundamentally undermines our liberal, democratic, and open society that strives for social justice, equality, and opportunities for all. 📑 Read ELF's new paper on the future of European liberalism here: https://bit.ly/3TRnQz5
