Do you know the chicken or the egg problem in computer science? Here is the question How can a C compiler be written in C language? This is possible by bootstrapping. Although basic modules will be written in other languages and built upon, similar to how the Pascal compiler was written in Fortran. #noNameChats

While Fortran entering the top 10 list is interesting, I am more interested in what pushed VB towards top 10 from over 200 in 2010's. Is it .NET framework?
Interestingly, Fortran has moved into the top 10 programming languages with the advent of the AI/ML era. https://lnkd.in/etgZ58fE

Modern Fortran: Does It Still Hold Its Edge in Scientific Computing Despite the Rise of Modern Programming Languages? --------------------------------------------------- Fortran (FORmula TRANslation) is one of the oldest programming languages in the world, developed in the 1950s to be the leading language for scientific and engineering computing. It became indispensable for performing complex mathematical operations and achieving high precision in calculations. As time has passed, and with the emergence of powerful programming languages such as C++, Rust, Go, Pascal, and Java, the question of Fortran's current relevance arises: does it still maintain a unique strength in specialized scientific fields, or have modern languages overtaken it? 🚀 Tech History Flashback! Dive into the roots of programming with a fascinating fact: the first-ever programming language was born in 1957! Meet "Fortran" (short for Formula Translation), a pioneering language designed for scientific and engineering calculations. Developed by IBM, Fortran revolutionized the world of computation by introducing a high-level language that allowed programmers to express mathematical algorithms more easily. Over the years, it played a crucial role in shaping the landscape of programming languages. Let's take a moment to appreciate the trailblazers who paved the way for the diverse coding languages we have today. From Fortran to Python, the journey has been incredible! 🚀💻 #TechHistory #ProgrammingLanguages #Fortran #CodeEvolution #MobileAppDevelopment #TesnovaSolutions #TesnovaMobileAppDevelopment #TesnovaTeam #Tesnova

Ever notice how Fortran is never called a memory unsafe language? I called many C devs incompetent, and that angered even many Rust devs. But it's the truth. You can create the exact same vulnerabilities in Fortran that you can create in C. i.e Memory leaks, double frees, dangling pointers, buffer overflows, etc. So why don't Fortran programmers create the same memory vulnerabilities like C programmers? I will *never* reveal the reason. Figure it out yourself. #coding #c #cpp #rust #fortran

1956 The first FORTRAN reference manual is released on October 15, 1956, six months before the first compiler's release. Only 60 pages long, with large print and wide margins, that first programming language was minuscule by today's standard. The original FORTRAN development team comprised John Backus, Sheldon Best, Richard Goldberg, Lois Mitchell Haibt, Harlan Herrick, Grace Mitchell, Robert Nelson, Roy Nutt, David Sayre, Peter Sheridan, and Irving Ziller.*CHM #onthisdayinmath
