I was recently asked “why I believe we are in the era of robotics. What makes this era of robotics different then other false dawns In the robotics industry?” Well this is it. Most people are seeing the benefits of AI through chat GPT and other large language models. Even while I write this post I see the “rewrite with AI button”. AI is available in almost every app I use. It’s made made creating content easier then ever and its ability to understand context is something that has been extremely useful in the digital space. The move to the physical space is the next frontier. This is the beginning of AI in the physical space. I always think of the meme. “In 2024 I wanted AI to do my laundry and do my dishes so I could spend my time writing and drawing. Instead AI does my writing and drawing and I still do my laundry and dishes.” Well that won’t be the case for long generative AI is moving to the physical space through the omniverse and simulations that allow AI to learn and understand our physical world. Smart, useful, robots are here now and they will only get better.
