Nosh bio has announced it will reach a mycelium protein production capacity of thousands of tons per year at its new German plant, as discussed by Tim Fronzek in the Q2 2024 edition of Protein Production Technology International. As well as that milestone, the company has revealed the results of an LCA conducted by ClimatePoint confirming that its solutions offer meat-free alternatives with a truly clean label and a great reduction in both carbon output and resource consumption. “The results of this study demonstrate that we can successfully produce food for people that minimizes pollution and conserves vital resources," said Felipe Lino, Nosh bio Co-founder & CTO. "As our global population expands and environmental concerns escalate, prioritizing sustainability in food production is paramount.” “We take great pride in our team's dedication that has enabled us to reach this point," added Fronzek, Nosh.bio CEO & Co-founder. "However, we recognize that there’s always room for improvement and as we begin batch production in coming months we look forward to incorporating the findings of the LCA into our future work. Sustainability lies at the heart of our mission, and we remain committed to continuous improvement whenever opportunities arise.” #foodtech #mycelium #foodproduction #alternativeproteins https://hubs.ly/Q02wDYhk0

Did you know that a third of all food is lost or wasted between farm and fork? (UN, 2019) Upcycling by-products is a powerful solution to help reduce waste. ♻️ Meliora Bio, a Denmark-based leader in innovative food ingredients and second-generation bioethanol, is addressing this challenge with its partner, COMET, who manufactures a high-quality soluble prebiotic fibre branded as Arrabina. 🌾 Arrabina is produced from upcycled crops using renewable energy, and can be used in a wide array of food and beverage applications, including tea, coffee, carbonated beverages, protein powders, baked goods, snacks, chocolate and confectionery. At COMET’s production plant in Denmark, Alfa Laval’s membrane technology plays a central role in the extraction process, which uses steam, water and pressure in a low-impact solution based on sustainable manufacturing – utilizing biomass combined heat and power (CHP) for steam, wind energy for power, and with low water use. Discover how pure fibre goodness is extracted with tailor-made membrane systems ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gVeak73Z #AlfaLaval #PioneeringPositiveImpact #FoodProduction #FoodProcessing

🌍🔄 Innovative Biorefinery Solutions for a Sustainable Dairy Industry! 🧀💧 I'm excited to share our latest research, just published in Sustainable Production and Consumption! We conducted a prospective life cycle assessment (LCA) of an integrated biorefinery designed to produce lactic acid from dairy side streams. This study demonstrates how converting dairy waste into valuable biochemicals can drive a circular bioeconomy and significantly enhance sustainability in the dairy sector.🌿 Our findings indicate that milk production contributes the most to environmental impacts across the supply chain, mainly due to enteric fermentation and fertilizer use. However, we identified effective strategies to mitigate these impacts, such as integrating renewable energy, valorizing biorefinery by-products, and optimizing co-product management. These strategies have the potential to achieve significant environmental savings, reducing impacts by more than 90% at the biorefinery level! 🚀 This research highlights the importance of strategic process design and the critical role of co-product management in minimizing the environmental footprint of the entire dairy supply chain. As we move towards a circular bioeconomy, these insights will guide future investments and operational decisions, ensuring long-term sustainability in the dairy industry. 🌱 #Sustainability #Biorefinery #CircularEconomy #LacticAcid #IrishBioeconomy #EnvironmentalImpact #DairyIndustry #Innovation #RenewableEnergy #ProspectiveLCA #GreenTech
