Become AI superfriends with your new hires. You’ll thank us later. With 40% of business graduate students proficient and using AI regularly (Capgemini Research, 2024), and only 15% of managers currently “speaking” Gen AI, this incoming wave of talent won’t dance to the same music as their predecessors. This recipe alone could sabotage your AI enablement strategy before it gets off the ground. So what can managers do to create a welcoming and dynamic environment while bolstering their AI enablement process? Managers - actively use AI in your own work. Show these new hires that you’ve got some tricks up your sleeve and that the company is serious about enabling AI for all. Celebrate real examples and use cases. Model where AI has been impactful, but leave enough room on the canvas for your newly hired cyborgs to uncover even more ways AI can help. Show up on campuses and where these future professionals are BEFORE they get into your company. Sponsor hackathons, create student led projects with depth and let the kids drive the bus. They’ll show off their AI skills, and you get a jump on scouting and recruiting talent early. Once they are in, modernize your onboarding with AI. While these talented young people will have AI skills, how they are deployed, meaningfully and within the culture and guidelines the company sets will be vital to your AI enablement success. Institute reciprocal mentorship protocols. You already encourage senior employees to mentor new hires, now flip it. Have new hires mentor senior leaders on their experience and use of AI. You’ll be surprised how many innovative ideas come out of this partnership, one, a master of tools, the other, a master of their business. Make sure job descriptions and career paths reflect the importance of AI skills. These new recruits will want to level up sooner rather than later, and you want to make clear that their unique skillset will have a place in architecting their future and the future of the company. These are a few ways to ensure your new AI-powered wiz kids feel welcome and empowered to make a real difference in the company. They will feel seen and be engaged, and you will have organically supercharged your AI enablement implementation. 🚀 Are You Ready for the Next Generation of AI-Savvy Talent? 🤔 If you're reading this, you're probably already diving into the world of Gen AI. But many out there aren’t! To make matters worse, the next generation of AI-capable managers is entering a workforce not yet designed for their skills. A recent Harvard Business Review article revealed some eye-opening stats: 🚩 Only 15% of managers consistently use Gen AI... but 40% of business grad students do! 🎓 🚩Nearly 40% of companies only allow specific teams (often tech-focused) to use Gen AI tools—potentially discouraging both current and future talent. 🤔 Now is the time for companies to prepare for AI-savvy talent by: 1️⃣ Onboarding for AI – Integrate AI safety & usage best practices into training from Day 1. 📝 2️⃣ Setting Guidelines & Guardrails – Ongoing education is crucial, especially as technology evolves. 📚 3️⃣ Promoting Collaboration – Host weekly virtual brown-bag lunches 🥪 where employees can share tips, tricks & use cases on how they're leveraging AI. 🔁 Embrace AI, Don’t Fear It This corporate 'angst' reminds me of the days when online communities and social media first emerged. At the time, internal groups, such as PR & Corporate Comms were hesitant to let employees post on their own branded communities or engage on Facebook and other social media sites. 🤷♂️ To attract and retain top AI talent, it's better to embrace the technology and provide the right support to make them (and your company) successful. 💡🚀 Right now, I am piloting an AI training program for companies. I will share my learnings in the coming weeks. #AI #GenAI #TalentStrategy #FutureOfWork #AIIntegration #takeawalkonthewilderside

🔧 If your workforce isn’t ready for GenAI, your competition will thank you later. AI isn’t just disrupting jobs—it’s reshaping how we work. To stay ahead, companies must do more than just hire AI experts. It’s time to reskill existing teams while preparing new talent pools. Why? Because when 90% of jobs could be affected by GenAI in the next decade, waiting isn’t an option. Here’s what smart businesses are doing to build a future-proof workforce: 📚 Forming skill-focused consortiums - industries are setting competition aside to train AI talent together. Look at the Automotive Skills Alliance in Europe—shared knowledge, shared expenses, and sector-wide benefits. 🌱 Partnering with nonprofits to reach untapped talent - nonprofits can help companies connect with diverse talent that might otherwise be overlooked. For example, the ITSMF - Information Technology Senior Management Forum bridges the gap between underrepresented communities and tech jobs. 🎓 Academic partnerships are unlocking affordable upskilling - think outside the usual 4-year degree. Micro-credential programs by universities, like IBM Skills Academy, are offering targeted AI training at a fraction of the cost. 🛠 Balancing technical skills with soft skills - technical know-how isn’t enough. Workers need communication, teamwork, and adaptability to thrive in a tech-heavy workplace. Problem-solving is no longer the goal—problem-finding is the skill of the future. The takeaway? Skilling isn’t just a CSR initiative—it’s a business strategy. Equip your team today, so they’re not left behind tomorrow. #AI #WorkforceDevelopment #Reskilling #FutureOfWork

Future Skills - where do you start? Navigating the skills needed to enable a successful workforce over the next few years has never felt more complex and undecided. What will AI adoption do? How will future soft skills be leveraged? For those that haven't read the World Economic Forum - Future of Jobs Report, it really is worth a read (or summary using AI, whilst reading the bits most relevant and impactful to your own interests!) Key standouts for me include; 👉 Analytical thinking is the most critical skill for reskilling, accounting for 10% of reskilling initiatives. 👉 Creative thinking follows, comprising 8% of these initiatives. 👉 AI and big data skills are gaining importance, with companies planning to allocate 9% of their training resources toward these areas. (aka - its not all about AI and tech, human skills and how to use them effectively are equally and even more of a future requirement). 👉 Leadership and social influence are ranked higher in reskilling strategies, indicating a strategic investment in these areas for future growth. (aka - to ensure success and growth, being able to convey an idea (with data) and then influence a decision / action will be important. Interestingly retaining your business insight and SMEs and retraining them seems to be the approach of many). 👉 Technological literacy, especially in areas such as AI, data science, and big data, will receive substantial investment in reskilling. 👉 Continuous learning and curiosity are key, with companies encouraging lifelong learning to ensure adaptability in a rapidly changing job landscape. (aka - change is coming and you can either get on the bus, or be left behind, but those that lean into learning and actively seek it out, will be most successful) 👉 As with all change and progress, resilience, flexibility, and agility are core skills that need to be engrained into everyone's work DNA. What skills do you see as critical for your business over the next 2 years? Do you think you have them already? And will you be hiring, or retraining to obtain them? #futureofwork #skills #development #ai #training

I am not a mother of many… The people behind my back aren’t my children... 2024 gave me a privilege to educate 100+ software engineers and marketers about #Leadership and #Management. The privilege to show them how traditional skills and alternative ones (handling new technologies including #AI and #machinelearning) allows for better and informative, also unbiased, decision-making. 25% of these brights minds already work in #IT or have probations and mutual projects completed with tech companies and digital agencies. It proves the fact that real businesses believe in this new generation and are open to give them opportunities to thrive in this tech-driven world. If you’re N-years old sitting your Boss chair, mind please there’s a new generation completing their Bachelor degree and following your footprint. All of them are fully aware of AI and modern technologies; many of them use these technovations in studying and self-development (coding, content creation, language learning, etc.). This generation brings a unique blend of tech-savviness, creativity, and a fresh perspective on traditional business practices. These guys with a higher intention will vote for tech transformation and will know how to do that for a better future of their teams and companies. Their ability to quickly learn and pivot in dynamic environments will be crucial as AI continues to reshape job roles and industries. So this adaptability makes them highly sought after in the evolving job market. As AI continues to evolve, the competition for attracting and retaining #GenZ talent will become increasingly fierce. Organizations must offer opportunities for continuous learning, foster an inclusive and purpose-driven culture, and provide meaningful work that resonates with this generation's values. I am proud to be a Leadership voice for these guys. I strongly believe in their potential and will support them on their way to success!

How will AI reshape the very nature of work, and why will companies need to adopt a skills-based mindset to survive and thrive in the future? Leslie Thomas, Ph.D. explores these questions, inspired by the book 'Work Without Jobs.' Learn how dismantling traditional job roles can help companies leverage AI and foster a more diverse and inclusive work environment. #FutureOfWork #SkillsBasedHiring #Certifications
How will AI reshape the very nature of work? And how can companies effectively adapt to and take advantage of such rapidly evolving technologies? 🤖 🚀 💫 In their groundbreaking book “Work Without Jobs: How to Reboot Your Organization’s Work Operating System,” Ravin Jesuthasan, CFA, FRSA and John Boudreau assert that companies must revamp how work is executed to effectively leverage advancing technologies like AI to survive and thrive. To stay nimble, companies must deconstruct traditional job roles—the traditional work “operating system”—into their component tasks, enabling easier reconfiguration of work activities as needed. This fresh approach unlocks several important benefits: ✅ Makes it easier for companies to identify which parts of a job role can be augmented or fully automated with AI as the technology evolves ✅ Accelerates upskilling and reskilling initiatives efforts by zeroing in on specific skill sets vs. focusing training for a specific job role which is likely to change ✅ Empowers companies to deploy workers based on skills rather than job titles, optimizing individual talents and fostering a more flexible, diverse, and inclusive work environment We’re already seeing this skills-based hiring taking root, with industry giants like IBM, Apple, Google, Accenture, and numerous others no longer requiring a four-year degree for many of their positions. How might this transformation affect certification programs, which have traditionally been tailored to specific job roles? Stay tuned for my next post, where I'll discuss how AI will likely impact the very nature of certification and credentialing in general. #Futureofwork #SkillsBasedHiring #Certifications
