creating a film is all about curating its elements… in order for film to be effective and engaging, all elements presented in front of the lens need to be compatible in underscoring the required vision – and they all need to peak.   a great way to facilitate this is by working with artistic professionals. having ballet star and driving force behind the Time To Dance international ballet gala Wim Vanlessen in front of the camera is always conducive to visually stunning storytelling.   the challenge is to have the other elements – location, light, costume and cinematography – live up and add to his screen presence and artistic prowess.   the location needed grandeur for Wim to fill with his charisma and grace. marble floors to have both Wim and the sharp sunlight glide and dance over; the sunlight reflecting upwards into the lens and creating light streaks that shroud Wim in a luminous halo.   stylish costume and leather shoes that emanate sartorial style, while the high dynamic monochromatic cinematography feels of old Hollywood, presenting skin tones reminiscent of renaissance sculpture.   all elements are working together to tell the same story; of movement, of grace, of style, of enjoyment… presenting a confidence in ability and an invitation to partake…

Every moment of filming The Story of Little Ballet Troupe was a journey that went far beyond the lens. It became a space where cultural preservation, storytelling, and the roles we play in safeguarding heritage filled each conversation with depth and purpose. Through each frame, we wanted to show the significance of this art form, the magic it holds, and why such legacy must be protected—but how do you capture something so immense and beautiful in just a film? With a small, tightly knit crew of four or five, each of us was fully immersed in the experience. Filmmaking for us is not just about shooting; it’s about understanding the story we are telling. From planning our stay to maximize collaboration, to huddling together to share thoughts and alternative ideas—every part of our process was grounded in connection. We were constantly in conversation, brainstorming new possibilities and improvements, taking small but intentional steps to craft and capture a story that mattered deeply. Behind every scene, there was the warmth of laughter, a moment of shared peace, and a determination to bring out the best in each other. We wanted the crew to feel healthy, inspired, and at ease so that they could give their all to this unfolding story. And yet, how much of this dedication is visible to others watching the final film?
