In the second in a series of Platform Africa interviews, Misheck Mutize (PhD), Lead of Credit Ratings Advisory at the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), explains the rationale for setting up an Africa Credit Rating Agency, as an initiative endorsed by the African Union. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between CARE Ratings (Africa) Private Limited and APRM on technical collaboration in April 2024. Dr Mutize highlights that this initiative will bring a unique competency in the analysis of risk in Africa, noting that since 1994 there has been a general decline in the creditworthiness of African states, according to the Big 3 rating agencies, whereas Member States consider the opposite in terms of economic growth, trade and human capital. This month marked a monumental stride in our journey towards sustainable and inclusive economic growth in South Africa. Alongside esteemed leaders like Adrian Gore, James Mackay, and over 140 fellow CEOs, I am thrilled to reaffirm my commitment, and that of BDO South Africa, to the CEO Pledge under the Business for SA (B4SA) banner. Phase 2 of the Government Business Partnership has launched, and with it, a renewed promise of transformative collaboration between business and government. This partnership has already shown significant strides towards revitalising our energy sector and reducing loadshedding, setting a robust stage for more ambitious reforms. As we embrace the GNU (as our 7th administration), we are poised to unlock even greater potential across vital sectors, aiming to boost investment and foster job creation. Our commitment is not just to our clients but to every South African, as we drive forward initiatives that elevate economic stability and community well-being. Engage with Pledge Campaign on LinkedIn (Business for SA) to stay updated on our progress and the impactful changes we are championing. Your support and engagement are crucial as we accelerate towards our ambitious goals for 2025. Together, we are not just participants but catalysts in reshaping South Africa’s economic landscape. Thank you to everyone involved for your relentless effort and dedication. Let us all continue to collaborate, innovate and elevate for a brighter, more prosperous future. #BDOSA #Leadership #EconomicGrowth #CEOPledge #BusinessForSA #PartnershipForChange #BDOElevates

"The advocacy will need to be broader, embracing new forms of revenue sources for the public treasury, providing opportunities for people to take up jobs across borders, and allowing value chain operations for goods and services in the region. We'll begin to see, in reality, that we can actually have a regional economy that is integrated." - RDB CEO Francis Gatare at a CEO Talk on shaping a new future for Africa through regional integration at the 11th Africa CEO Forum in Kigali. #ACF2024 | Africa CEO Forum
