Key Takeaway: Sustainability in manufacturing has shifted from an ideal to a critical business strategy due to environmental concerns, consumer expectations, and regulatory pressures. Achieving end-to-end transparency for ethical production remains challenging, particularly in resource consumption and waste generation. Traditional siloed approaches to product lifecycle management hinder accountability and sustainability. Implementing a digital thread, which interlinks product data across the supply chain, can address these challenges. Transitioning to data-node-based systems enhances traceability and transparency, fostering better decision-making. This systematic approach is crucial for meeting future regulations, such as the EU’s Digital Product Passport, ensuring compliance and long-term sustainability. [Update] Excited to share that the recent paper with Rotua Nuraini Tampubolon on "Sustainability in the Supply Chain: Analysing the Efficiency and Effectiveness of the Single Submission of Freight Transport Application through the Indonesia National Single Window System" has been published and is now accessible on the ESCAP website. We analyzed Indonesia's Single Submission of Freight Transport Application (SSm Pengangkut) and found it significantly improves time efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and transparency in port licensing. This innovation aligns with the maritime single window concept and contributes to SDGs 8, 9, and 13. Key Takeaway: The growing importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria in supply chain management. Despite recognizing ESG's importance, fewer organizations apply these criteria when selecting suppliers. Customer demands and regulatory mandates primarily drive ESG strategies, but companies face challenges like costs and data reliability. While ESG offers opportunities for enhanced reputation and competitive advantage, there is a notable gap between acknowledging its value and actual implementation. The article calls for clearer prioritization and actionable strategies to fully integrate ESG into supply chains. Creating a future where sustainability is an integral part of our business at Baltik vairas. 🌿Our understanding of sustainability goes beyond the environment to include social responsibility, human rights, fair business practices, corporate governance, and sustainable partnership. Sustainable and transparent procurement practice is one of the important steps towards achieving the goals of our sustainability strategy. Based on the principles of sustainable procurement, we strive to ensure that all raw materials, transportation, energy resources, and services are sourced only from suppliers that meet our high standards, ensure fair and sustainable production, have the most positive social impact, and achieve environmentally friendly results. 🔹To ensure transparency in our supply chain, we have invited our suppliers and partners to join sustainabill – part of VERSO platform. This cloud platform helps our purchasing team bring transparency to our supply chain and establish sustainability aspects such as compliance with due diligence obligations and climate protection as well as our requirements in the areas of social responsibility, health and safety, sustainable sourcing, environmental management, anti-corruption, and carbon footprint. 🔹To date, almost 300 of our business partners have joined the platform, and 71% of them have responded to the questionnaires. Today, 65% of our partners are fully mature or mature. By 2024, we are planning to have 100% of our partners connected. The Business Partners Code of Conduct is also an important commitment. We asked our suppliers to ensure important aspects of their business operations, respect the human rights including the absence of child or forced labour, equal opportunities, freedom of association, safe and healthy working conditions, fair renumeration, and more. We believe all these actions are driving change in the business community, and that only by working together and taking conscious action will we be able to create a more environmentally friendly future. #Sustainability #SocialResponsibility #SustainablePartnerships #EnvironmentalStandards #GreenBusiness

Jippii, meidän julkaisu “Julkiset hankinnat ja kiertotalous – Suosituksia päättäjille ja hankintoja johtaville” on nyt julkaistu myös englanniksi. Hienoa, että saatiin tämäkin maaliin. Kiitos Sonja Lankiniemi ja Katriina Alhola 😉 Do you lead or make decisions about procurement? We have published a concise package of recommendations for supporting circular economy procurement. Only 4 pages!! The publication presents the four critical factors identified in our interview study conducted in the Circwaste project, which support the practical implementation of circular economy procurement. These are: Strategic Management: Procurement should be managed strategically and systematically, focusing on the most impactful procurement categories. Communication: Procurement should be communicated both externally and internally to spread new practices and benefits widely. Increasing competence. Those involved in procurement should understand the principles of circular economy procurement. Circular economy changes the traditional procurement approach, emphasizing the need for assessment. Monitoring and Impact: Circular economy procurement should be monitored, and its impact should be evaluated. The short publication also envisions what an organization can achieve by focusing on these areas. If we invest in the circular economy skills of procurement professionals, what can be achieved? How does this sound? “Skilled and motivated experts know how to allocate time and resources to the most impactful circular economy procurements. Experts recognize the need and opportunities for innovative procurement and can communicate the organization’s needs to suppliers. Time and resources are saved when trained staff know where to seek help, as their networks expand through training.” The publication was made in collaboration with Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) - Suomen ympäristökeskus (Syke) https://lnkd.in/dNT44AVa

Heart-wrenching footage from Bantarbolang Village, Indonesia shows the devastating impact of inadequate waste management in certain parts of Asia. Most plastics (other than PET/ PP) here are simply harder to recycle, leaving villages like this one struggling to cope with waste overflow. The sad truth is that no amount of #AI or #tech can fix this without first investing in infrastructure in these regions to take it somewhere first! Let's start the conversation on how we help villages by solving it on land first, thoughts!?
