“It’s not what you achieve, it’s what you overcome. That’s what defines your career.” (Carlton Fisk) After finishing my undergraduate, I volunteered to work in a certain company so as to gain knowledge and skills as far as my profession is concerned. The Company had a procurement department but I wasn’t accommodated there instead I was offered an opportunity in the customer care department. I really learnt a lot but deep in my heart I was feeling some emptiness. I was feeling like I might not meet my career dream of becoming a procurement officer. I decided to share my plight with the company Human Resource Manager but she didn’t like the idea. She felt like I just wanted to complain. She instead went ahead and convinced the other managers that they no longer require my services and so I should leave. “Rejection does not mean you aren’t good enough. It just means the other person failed to realize what you have to offer” Mark Amend. I left the company and months later, I got a job as a procurement officer. I successfully managed complex operations and procurement processes leading to cost reduction and improved efficiency. The experience gained is what has impacted my career. Do you find any difficulties when it comes to procurement, tendering and supply chain? Look no further. Reach out via DM for further discussions and potential collaborations. #globallinkedinbootcampwithmuthoni

Born in Southern California and raised in the San Gabriel Valley, I have always had lifelong ASPIRATIONS and DREAMED of one day to “GROW UP” to become a Procurement Professional. ………………. Okay, the below photo is 100% me, but, like many of you, I had NO CLUE what procurement or contracts or purchasing, or whatever you want to call it, was. 😊 I’ve always wanted to SERVE others though… and, ❤️ "Procurement professionals serve others to ensure everyone in the organization has the tools and resources they need to be successful." So… the real story. 📖 Many many (and more many :-) moons ago, I found myself serving in the private sector that operated as a quasi-governmental entity. 🏢 Almost immediately, a (proverbial) “knock” was at my imaginary cubicle door. 👋 "Hey, Mark! Do you want to help out in the purchasing office for a little bit? They are behind and really need some help. I think you will be a great fit!" And, as they say…. … the rest is HISTORY. How many of you can relate to stumbling upon your procurement career path? 🤔 In my years working in procurement, I've encountered few who actively CHOSE this field. 🤷♂️ It's not a reflection of the career’s WORTH; rather, it HIGHLIGHTS the lack of STRUCTURED MODELS and FRAMEWORKS to promote AWARENESS and RECRUITMENT into the procurement profession. I think it is changing a bit, but ever so slowly, don’t you think? p.s. How bout' you? How did you get started in procurement? And, if you’re really really brave… share a pic of you as a kid. ;-) 📸 #Procurement #CareerJourney #ProcurementProfessional #ProcurementLeadership

Where has the demand been for procurement professionals so far in 2024? There is three sectors dominating the market in Sydney: Government (State, Federal, and Local), FMCG and Manufacturing, with 81% of roles sub 200K coming from these industries which is rare given that we generally see a much broader spread of sectors. Interestingly, these 3 sectors are experiencing some of the highest percentages of active candidates, so what causing the activity? NSW Public Sector is moving away from daily rate contract roles and pivoting to permanent resources. Those who prefer to contract are departing which is creating the increase in roles. We are seeing two things occur in FMCG and Manufacturing – continued cost pressure which is causing the need for procurement SME’s to mitigate and movement out of the sector, creating backfills, as some businesses cannot compete with salaries offered in other sectors. For Job Seekers: If you're in one these sectors, there has been an uptick in opportunities, and active talent will continue to drive demand. For Employers: Understanding these current dynamics is crucial for effective talent acquisition and employee retention. For more information please reach out to ana@jigsawtm.com #procurement

My philosophy is this: When a team is ready to make a major decision that will change the way things are currently done, or with whom they are done, you know you are in the right place if everyone on the team has "butterflies in their stomach" about what they are about to do. That's the signal that you've pushed the envelope and are going for breakthrough, not just incremental gain. But in doing so, always have a mitigation plan to make course corrections because things may not go exactly as planned at the start. If you can get through those initial bumpy patches, as a team, you will win big and make change happen. But when everyone on the team feels comfortable about their decision, and doesn't have "butterflies in their stomach", watch out! This means that they've settled for easy incremental gains - a "lowest common denominator" solution - that challenges nothing, satisfies everyone's personal desires, and perpetuates the current state for years to come. The real issue though is that all of them will be rewarded for having done so.

🌟 Excited to announce that I’ve officially joined Leeds City Council as a Procurement Officer as of yesterday! 🌟 In my first day of conversations with colleagues, we addressed some significant challenges facing the council’s procurement function, especially around budget constraints and cost overruns. One key discussion focused on the strain that strategic service costs—particularly in healthcare—place on our budget. Tight spending controls mean we’re increasingly looking at creative ways to manage resources effectively while ensuring essential services remain uncompromised. One area I’m excited to explore further is transforming our supplier relationships. Instead of an adversarial approach, we aim to build partnerships with suppliers—working together towards mutually beneficial solutions. By fostering collaboration, we can enhance efficiencies and better address the challenges both parties face in a dynamic public sector landscape. It may look impractical to achieve but it is certainly doable only if we make a cautious effort! Looking forward to tackling these challenges head-on with the talented team at Leeds City Council! #procurement #publicsector #LeedsCityCouncil #collaboration #costmanagement #healthcare
