WELL IT'S FRIDAY! Here are three things that have caught my attention this week. 1️⃣ Garlic & Herb... RIP ⚰ The Daily Mail recently reported that a Domino's Garlic & Herb dip is being sold on eBay for £9,999, as fans fear the popular dip may not be returning. Both the iconic Garlic & Herb and Honey & Mustard dips have been recalled due to traces of peanuts, posing a potential health risk for those with allergies, according to food safety officials. Fun fact: a Domino’s survey revealed that enough Garlic & Herb dip was consumed in 2023 to fill 17 Olympic-sized swimming pools! This incident highlights a broader trend of increasing product recalls across the food and beverage industry, driving the need for more specific and rigorous testing protocols to ensure consumer safety. 2️⃣ Pancakes on the go 🥞 Breakfast is getting a makeover, shifting towards more on-the-go, protein-packed, and supplement-driven options over traditional, hearty meals. Belgian Boys is embracing this trend with the launch of their Breakfast All Day boxes and Pancakes & Go cups, marking the brand’s debut in the grab-and-go category. Rolling out with a significant first order at Walmart, these products offer convenient solutions for breakfast, lunch, and snacking throughout the day. With a Lunchables-style appeal but potentially healthier, Belgium Boys is tapping into the demand for quick, nutritious alternatives in the busy lives of today's consumer of all ages. 3️⃣ Dessert bites 🍦 Gen Z is leading the charge in the snacking trend, and brands are paying attention. We (I know, I’m a millennial, but a girl can still feel young, right?) are craving less bulk and more on-the-go, bite-sized treats. Two major brands that have embraced this shift in the ice cream and dessert space are Ben & Jerry's and Magnum, both rolling out perfect snack-sized options. Doughlicious The London Dough Co., a brand that’s been ahead of the curve with its bite-sized format, deserves a shout-out for consistently delivering on this trend with its delicious and convenient treats!

This week, our wellness topic is Food Safety. Whether you’re buying ingredients at a supermarket, making meals at home, or enjoying a restaurant dinner with friends, being vigilant about the safety of your food can decrease the risk of foodborne illnesses (especially if you are immunocompromised). When it comes to dining out, consider the following: 🧐 Scan the Joint: Clean tables, floors, and utensils often reflect a commitment to food safety. As do servers with clean aprons, hair restraints, and gloves. 🧼 Wash Your Hands: Before your meal, always wash your hands (or use hand sanitizer in a pinch) to avoid spreading germs. 🌡 Temperature Matters: Make sure hot foods are hot and cold foods are cold. There is a temperature “danger zone” that food service facilities must be aware of as it could be a breeding ground for bacteria. 👨🍳 Watch Out for Undercooked Foods: Ask your server about how meat, eggs, and seafood are prepared, especially if you prefer rare or undercooked dishes. Most establishments have to include a warning about this on their menus. 📅 Be Mindful of Food Allergies: If you or your dining companions have allergies, inform the staff to avoid cross-contamination. Don’t assume a restaurant is “safe” just because they market themselves as natural, organic, clean, etc. 🚨 Trust Your Instincts: If something tastes or smells off, don’t hesitate to send it back. 🍱 Leftovers: Be sure to refrigerate your leftovers within 2 hours to avoid risk of bacteria growth. DROP A COMMENT: How do you consider safety when dining out? NEED MORE INFO? Check out our “Dining Out” webinar recording on DishWithDinaTV (linked below). And visit your local health department’s website for recent food inspections/violations before you visit your next eatery. https://lnkd.in/eNADz-my #FoodSafety #EatOutSmart #DiningOutTips #SafeEating #HealthyDining #NutritionTips #DishWithDina

Whether you're walking house to house tomorrow, handing out treats or hosting a party, let’s remember that Halloween food safety remains important — with these expert tips! 🎃 With all the treats and party foods going around, both parents/guardians and party hosts can take a few extra steps to keep Halloween fun and safe. 🔎 Check Treats Carefully Whether it’s homemade goodies or store-bought candy, examine packaging for any tampering. When in doubt, throw it out! ❌ Avoid Unlabeled Treats Parents—if it’s not labeled or has unclear ingredients, especially those that could trigger allergies, play it safe and skip it. Food businesses and hosts, consider clear ingredient labeling as a courtesy for peace of mind. 🧊 Be Cautious with Perishables If you’re hosting a Halloween party, keep perishable treats like cheeses, dips, and meats in the fridge until serving, and don’t leave them out for more than 2 hours (1 hour if it’s warm). Keep cold foods cold, and hot foods hot by using ice trays and warming dishes! 🧼 Practice Hand Hygiene Keep a hand sanitizing station near food areas, especially if you’re hosting kids and handling finger foods. Encourage little ones to wash up before grabbing treats. Let’s make Halloween memorable for all the right reasons by keeping it spooky *and* safe! Do you have any Halloween food safety tips to add? Share them in the comments. #Halloween #FoodSafety #PartyHostTips #TrickOrTreat

🎄 Celebrate Safely This Holiday Season! 🎄 The festive season in Kenya is all about nyama choma, biryani, chapati, and family feasts under the sun. 🌞🍖 But as we enjoy these special moments, let’s not forget food safety! No one wants their holiday to be remembered for the wrong reasons. 🔥 Nyama Choma 101 Whether it’s goat, beef, or chicken, ensure it’s cooked all the way through. Juices should run clear, and the meat thermometer (yes, we need one!) should read at least 75°C for chicken and 70°C for beef. 🧼 Cleanliness is Key Before handling chapati dough, marinating meat, or slicing fruit, wash your hands thoroughly. And don’t forget to keep utensils and chopping boards separate for raw and cooked food. 🥗 Cool That Biryani Safely Got leftovers from your feast? Pack them up and refrigerate within two hours. Kenya’s warm weather can make food spoil faster if left out. ❄️ Transporting Food for Gatherings Carrying your pot of pilau to grandma’s house? Keep hot food hot and cold food cold. Insulated containers are your best bet to prevent spoilage. 🌽 Catering to Everyone With family coming together, be mindful of allergies and special diets. If you’re serving fermented milk or traditional dishes, let guests know what’s in them. This season, let’s celebrate good times, good food, and great health! What’s your favorite holiday dish? Share in the comments below! 😊
