“The unspoken Twists” I wanted to share a bit about my journey as a Virtual Assistant (VA). It's been a wild ride, and I'm grateful for the twists and turns that have led me to where I am today. My quest for financial freedom and stability has been a driving force behind my career choices. As a VA, I've been able to break free from the constraints of a traditional 9-to-5 job and create a more flexible, fulfilling career. But it's not just about the flexibility - it's about building a stable financial foundation. I've been working hard to upskill and learn new things, so I can increase my earning potential and achieve my long-term financial goals. I first heard about Virtual Assistance through Adeife Adeoye , and I was intrigued. I dove headfirst into research, trying to learn as much as I could about this new career path. But as I started exploring the VA world, I quickly realized that it's a crowded space. To stand out, I knew I needed to upskill and learn new things. So, I've been taking courses, attending webinars, and practicing new skills. It's been challenging at times, but it's also been incredibly rewarding. And now, I'm thrilled to share that I've landed an internship as a Business Development specialist! I'm so excited to apply my VA skills in a new context and help drive growth for the company. The Power of Upskilling and Meaningful Connections After spending over five years in the same company within the interior design industry, navigating through various roles, I realized the importance of growth and increasing my value. Despite my dedication and hard work, I felt it was time to explore opportunities that could help me grow and showcase my potential. In September this year, a friend shared a link to apply for the ALX Virtual Assistant Cohort 6 program. I decided to take the leap, and it turned out to be life-changing. The 8-week program not only equipped me with new skills but also opened my eyes to the importance of forming meaningful connections. What stood out the most during the training was the emphasis on networking. We were taught that opportunities often come from the connections we already have. True to this, the executive assistant role I recently secured was referred to me by a friend, who had shared the opportunity through her own network. This role is hybrid, not fully virtual, but it aligns perfectly with my career aspirations. It became clear to me that upskilling alone isn’t enough—it’s about applying what you learn, forming genuine connections, and leveraging your network. This experience has been a testament to the importance of constant growth and nurturing relationships. If I hadn’t taken that step to upskill and engage with my network, I wouldn’t have landed this incredible opportunity. Grateful for Second Chances and New Beginnings Today, I am proud to share that I have successfully completed an 8-week intensive Virtual Assistant course with ALX, graduating with an impressive 98% average! My journey to this milestone wasn’t easy, but it’s a story of resilience and determination. After taking a nearly 2-year career break to focus on raising my twin toddlers, I was ready to start my career again. Earlier this year, I attempted to join ALX Cohort 5 but couldn’t complete my registration and eventually gave up. However, life had other plans. ALX reached out with an incredible second chance, letting me know that my application still stood and inviting me to join the final cohort of the year. It was an opportunity I couldn’t let pass. Balancing the demands of being a stay-at-home mom to twin toddlers while taking on this rigorous program was no small feat. But I was determined to make it work and gave it my all. This achievement means more to me than a certificate—it symbolizes growth, perseverance, and the start of an exciting new chapter.
