🔋Unleashing Microgrid Resiliency for a Brighter Future - How the City of Fremont is Actively Working to Have Your Back(up) Fremont's commitment to pioneering innovative sustainable solutions is exemplified by our strong collaborations with local businesses like Gridscape Solutions and Delta Electronics Americas. Over five years ago, the inauguration of Gridscape's Fremont Firestation 6 Microgrid was a monumental event that showcased our collective efforts towards a greener future. By equipping three fire stations (6, 7, and 11) with solar photovoltaic carports and large battery systems, we are increasing energy resiliency and bolstering operational capacity during power outages. This innovative combination of solar panels and batteries allows each station to generate and store its own energy, enabling them to separate or "island" from the grid in emergencies. With cloud-based energy management software, city staff can efficiently monitor generation and usage. Thanks again for this public-private partnership between the our city of Fremont Fire Department/Environmental/Public Works & Economic Development teams, Gridscape Solutions, Delta Electronics and the California Energy Commission ensures a sustainable and cost-effective solution, saving the city a quarter of a million dollars in energy costs over the next decade while reducing the municipal greenhouse gas footprint by 80,000 pounds of CO2 annually, equivalent to 36 MTCO2e. The fire station microgrids bring multiple benefits, including reduced strain on the grid, enhanced protection of critical facilities, support for local innovation and entrepreneurship, increased community resilience, cost savings, and a significant reduction in carbon emissions. We firmly believe in the power of these partnerships to drive positive change and continue to work hand in hand with our local businesses especially our opportunity and role in being a major 🇺🇸 advanced manufacturing hub working to shape a more sustainable world 🌎. As we reminisce about that special day, the memories flood back – the joy, the pride, and the collective effort that made it all possible. None of this would have been achievable without the unwavering support of the city of Fremont. Their vision and commitment paved the way for a journey that has transformed not only the infrastructure but also inspired a lot of cities to move towards sustainable energy. Since then, we've come a long way. What began with one microgrid has blossomed into nearly 65 deployed and contracted microgrids in just five years.
