Susan Fioravanti, OTR/L this is so spot on. We've seen this pattern with each wave of technology - you either adopt new tools and spend time understanding how they can help or you'll fall behind. What's crucial for clinicians to remember is that these technologies are evolving faster than any previous technological shift. Those who hesitate to adopt new solutions will fall behind much more quickly than in past transitions.

1moIn 1997 I wrote an article about our hospital and rehab department initial transition from paper to EMR. I was part of the clinical transition team that built online forms and drop down menus with IT staff. It was tedious work that continued to improve over time, including updates, upgrades and then transition to another platform that essentially had us starting over. Over time there were a few staff who refused to adapt or adopt to EMRs. They quit instead of moving forward.
