BREAKING BAD SILOS: HOW TO DO A REALITY CHECK Some years ago, Helen Langhammer and I were asked to mediate conflict between two departments. There were some politics involved and the tone became quite antagonistic. It was not a great outcome and we began to think of ways to make facilitating a similar challenge more objective and data driven in future. Here's the result: This is a #workstyles cross-functional feedback system designed to make departments talk to each other 🙂 1. So, you get each department to first complete a self-assessment i.e. how well they think they perform across these 8 areas. In this example, the HR dept did a self-assessment 2. Then, other departments do an assessment of HR and the results are compared In this example, the HR dept received a stark reality check in the areas of Decisiveness/Result Orientation/Business Acumen/Leadership 3. Personally, I love a good investigation!! It’s in my nature to want to get to the facts of a matter, to probe into the finer details, and be thorough! (Perhaps I’m just nosey!! 🤔☺️) But enjoy it or not, it’s crucial to approach fact-finding exercises with an open mind, a listening ear, and an impartial view to arrive at an outcome that’s balanced and fair. Not everyone is like me though, and many struggle with workplace investigations… not knowing where to start, wanting to ‘just get it over with’, or worse still, being influenced by outside factors or people. Our workshops at Triangle HR focus on the practical, hands-on skills that managers need and I’m sure the delegates from this session are now better equipped, should the need arise! 👌🏽 #managementdevelopment #factfinding #hrconsultancy #doitright
