✨ Human rights, environmental sustainability, economic sustainability ✨ In May, we conducted impact assessment for our activities in the Philippines. This means we now have a full overview of our risks of adversely impacting our surroundings in social, environmental and economic areas.    Implementing the OECD - OCDE and United Nations Global Compact standards for Responsible Business Conduct is something we’ve been focusing on since the beginning of Aeven. Back in August 2023, we conducted our overall assessment, and now we are proud to say that our Philippine operations are also onboarded.    Our risk of adversely impacting the 48 human rights areas, 20 environmental areas, and 16 economic areas in the standard was discussed thoroughly, and we now have a list of actions to mitigate our potential risks. Because the conclusion is that our Philippine colleagues manage their risks very well and conduct responsible business on all areas.     Communications & Sustainability Director, Sara V. 🎉Our guests from Vietnam's provincial governance have completed their 10-day training programme! Congratulations on the hard work and devotion to improve sustainable governance! 👏 The tailormade course tackled the learning goals of the delegation on sustainable regional governance, circular economy and green transition. The participants were very happy with the contents and learned a great deal, as stated by the delegation leader Mr Binh: “When we reviewed the content, it was a meaningful approach to developing strategies for provinces. The program's design is systematic and meaningful, addressing theory and macro-level topics during the first week, followed by practical applications at the council, municipality, and university levels the second week. Site visits have added coherence, reshaping, and restructuring ideas. The lectures provided clear answers to the questions raised by the delegation. The atmosphere has been supportive, and materials have been provided in Vietnamese with recaps and key learnings from each day. By attending this program, we have gained valuable knowledge and insights into practices relevant to Vietnam. Achieving SDG 16, which aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, ensure access to justice, and build effective institutions, requires substantial financial resources. Relying solely on state budgets is insufficient, making innovative financing mechanisms essential. In Indonesia, successful initiatives have leveraged diverse funding sources to address environmental disputes, while the new UU TPKS law allows compensation for sexual violence victims through alternative financing beyond state budgets. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) play a crucial role in advancing justice but often face funding constraints. To support them, trust funds have been established to ensure their operational sustainability. Collaborative efforts, particularly between governments and CSOs, are vital for accelerating SDG 16 implementation. Innovative financing not only mobilizes additional resources but also enhances efficiency and sustainability. I'm very thrilled to share our newest publication on EUCSDD: Indonesia's responses and impacts. Setara Institute The brief explanation is as such below. The European Union is the region at the forefront of promoting legally binding instruments on human rights and environmental due diligence. After going through a legislative process of more than 2 years, the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (EUCSDDD) has been officially adopted into law on June 13, 2024, the transposition process in the laws of EU member states on July 26, 2026, and will come into force in July 2027. The EU CSDDD explicitly introduces mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence for large EU companies worldwide and non-EU companies operating in the EU, including Indonesian companies, that fulfill the requirement to include as a part of the big landscape of the European supply chain (entire supply chain). Executive Director of Indonesia Global Compact Network, Josephine Satoyono, attended the High-level Panel HLP7 under the theme of "The Role of the Private Sector in Meeting Goals of SDG6" during the 10th World Water Forum. This High-Level Panel examines the opportunities for collaboration between the government and the private sector to solve shared water stewardship challenges and achieve shared goals. Ministers and business leaders discuss where the right balance lies and their shared goals to ensure simultaneous economic growth and environmental and societal protection. The High-Level Panel includes a reflection on existing private sector commitments, for example through the Water Action Agenda, to understand how the private sector contributes to national and SDG6 targets responsibly. Attending the Conference on ASEAN SCP Policies and Practices, organized by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH alongside the 17th Asia-Pacific Roundtable for Sustainable Production and Consumption (APRSCP) in Shah Alam, Malaysia, on October 21-22, was truly inspiring and energizing! The event, aimed at exchanging global insights and best practices to strengthen SCP policies in #ASEAN, went beyond expectations with its sharp focus on Green Public Procurement (#GPP). A highlight was hearing Janez Potocnik, Co-chair of the International Resource Panel (IRP), share his expert outlook on the opportunities ASEAN’s resources present for driving a green and just transition—an exciting call to action for the region. This conference was more than just a learning platform; it showcased the profound progress in GPP across Southeast Asia. The partnership between GIZ and the region has been a game-changer in scaling sustainability efforts. As GIZ’s support comes to a close, I’m optimistic that other partners, such as SWITCH-Asia Official, will step up to support regional leadership in advancing GPP policies and practices.
