Every one of the 1,974 underground parking spaces in Concord Pacific ’s Hillside project has its own electric vehicle (EV) charger, making it the world's largest EV charging parkade, according to the Vancouver-headquartered developer. The infrastructure underpinning the parking spaces at the four-tower Hillside is designed so if every spot was charging an EV, the electrical system can withstand the surge in power demand, according to Peter Udzenija, director of corporate relations for Concord Pacific. “When you do a single parkade of 2,000 stalls roughly and they’re all EV-complete, that means you’ve anticipated a future whereby EV stalls will become the norm, which is what the government is interested in seeing,” Peter Webb, senior vice-president of development for Concord Pacific, told Sustainable Biz Canada. #ev #electricvehicle #EVcharging #greenbuildings #sustainability #Vancouver https://lnkd.in/g4npSTjf

🏙️🌿 The City of Vancouver just launched #EnergizeVancouver, a resource hub designed to support building owners and managers in understanding and complying with current and upcoming requirements, including: ✓ Annual energy and carbon reporting – ✨the first deadline for office and retail buildings larger than 100,000 sqft is coming up on June 1, 2024✨. Building owners will need to use ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to benchmark their building’s annual energy and carbon use and submit a report via the City’s Building Performance Reporting System. ✓ GHG intensity limits (starting in 2026) for office and retail buildings (100,000 sq. ft. and above), which will progressively lower over time. Visit #EnergizeVancouver to learn more and stay informed about upcoming regulations, and proactively plan for retrofits, efficiency measures and investments in renewable energy sources to reduce GHG emissions. https://lnkd.in/em9BeZii

New £1bn low carbon heating infrastructure in Westminster London buildings are to be heated by a new low carbon heat network which is expected to create 500 jobs and save 75,000 tonnes of CO2 every year. The South Westminster Area Network (SWAN) will become one of the UK’s first heat network zones, which are on average around 40% cheaper than building level heat pumps, it is claimed. The scheme from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and Westminster City Council includes a joint venture between Hemiko and Vital Energi, and also partners with the London Heritage Quarter and AECOM. It plans to invest £100m within 3 years, £500m within 10 years, and £1bn by 2050. I assume that this means that the weaker Option 2 is being considered for the Future Homes Standard notional building definition. This would be a missed opportunity and would lead to higher energy bills for occupants. https://lnkd.in/dKw8ArnA

The City of Portland is proposing a new policy that would expand #energy reporting and disclosure requirements for multifamily buildings. Additionally, property owners must report their energy use to the City to track #carbonemissions. This will help prospective renters make better decisions based on information about energy costs and health risks. If you are interested in providing feedback to the proposed policy, click the link in our blog to submit your comments by tomorrow, June 14th. #energyjustice #energyefficiency #portlandOR #PortlandOregon #EJ #EnvironmentalJustice #climatechange #climatejustice https://lnkd.in/gvQSKKYH

District energy at Lakeview: a better model for community energy. Yesterday we broke ground on our Energy Centre at Lakeview, the largest of its kind in North America. The system will provide heating and cooling to 16,000 residential units and thousands of square feet of commercial and retail space using effluent from the neighbouring wastewater treatment plant. Given the unprecedented growth in electricity demand on our grids, paired with the need to decarbonize, this system will use 40% less electricity with 85% less carbon emissions. Imagine the impact we can make globally by adopting models like this for our communities. Collaboration. Ambition. Partnership. These three words embodied the sentiment we heard yesterday morning as we gathered to celebrate this milestone event in our project. We want to thank our partners from Lakeview Village, City of Mississauga, Region of Peel, and Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada for their combined ambitions to bring this project to life, and for the years of collaboration together. We recognize the amount of effort, determination, collaboration and trust it takes to build communities differently. It was truly an exciting day where we were able to see the progress of our partnership coming to life.
