The government has launched a consultation on reforming the regime that measures the energy performance of buildings in England and Wales. It is proposing changes to energy performance certificates (EPCs) – which rate non-domestic and domestic buildings, and display energy certificates (DECs) which are produced for public buildings over a certain size. The changes include introducing additional metrics to calculate EPC ratings, and updating when energy certificates are required. https://lnkd.in/exNmZ8Zb #EnergyPerformanceCertificates #EnergyEfficientBuildings #DisplayEnergyCertificates

EPC Reform! The Government has announced an overhaul of Energy Efficiency Certificates. It has long been argued that #EPCs are no longer fit for purpose and the government are now #consulting on proposed changes. The government plans to update the way the UK measures the energy efficiency of buildings and overhaul Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), the standard for home energy efficiency since 2007. 🏘️ 🏚️ The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) proposes including #heatingsystems in EPCs for the first time and changing how EPC bands are calculated. DESNZ suggests the current focus on #energycosts is too narrow and should include: Thermal performance of the building's #fabric Type of #heating system Potential for integrating smart technologies like #solar panels The government is also looking at updating the rules around when an EPC is required, managing the quality of EPCs and improving the accessibility of building performance data. Is your property as energy-efficient as it could be? An Energy Report, part of the Home Report, rates your home’s energy efficiency and environmental impact with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The EPC gives your home a rating from A-G, with A being the best, and it provides recommendations on how to enhance energy efficiency and reduce energy costs. Why is this important? The Scottish Government states that only approved assessors can carry out an energy survey, making it essential to get it right! Is your property ready for an EPC? EPCs, MEES and the Future of Energy Performance – Part 2 (England and Wales) Part 2 of our series on energy performance in England and Wales focuses on Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES), brought in by the Energy Efficiency (Private Rented Property) (England and Wales) Regulations 2015. MEES requires properties to have an EPC rating of 'E' or above to be let. Exemptions to this rule exist but are specific, non-transferable, and time-limited, often requiring documentation and local authority notifications. Our article explains the exemptions, the process for registering them, and the necessary improvements for properties rating ‘F’ or ‘G’. We also explore how the future of energy performance assessments will focus more on carbon emissions than just energy efficiency, with modern technologies like heat pumps and renewables likely to improve EPC ratings. https://lnkd.in/e7WcdzjM

Massive energy savings for leading UK Property Company drives improved building efficiency and EPC rating... Energy savings 📈✅ EPC Rating 📈✅ Building Efficiency 📈✅ Nathan, Kev and Rick have just completed final validations for our first big fan array project for a leading UK property company. Validation ensures the right air volumes and pressures so our savings are absolutely on a like for like basis. Plus, our meticulous checks and balances ensure good installations which then makes sure we achieve massive and important savings like these: ✅Supply 63% energy savings ✅Extract 52% energy savings. These savings will not only increase their building efficiency, but the improvement in specific fan power co-efficient will improve their EPC rating in line with legislation. 📢 Attention Ontario Public Agencies! It’s that time of the year again: annual energy reporting is due by July 1, 2024! Ontario’s Broader Public Sector (BPS) organizations, agencies, municipalities and more must report their energy use to the Ministry of Energy. ⚡Join the Ministry-led BPS webinar on June 4th, from 10:30am to 12:00pm. You can register for this webinar using this link: https://bit.ly/3yHbpyN. This year, BPS organizations must submit reports for both 2022 and 2023 as well as update and publish their energy conservation and demand management plans on their website by July 1. Energy usage can be a significant operating cost for public agencies. Reporting and conservation planning are vital tools that can help agencies: ✅Manage energy use and costs. ✅Identify best practices and energy-saving opportunities. ✅Reduce emissions. ✅Evaluate performance by comparing facilities province-wide. ✅And more! Over 700 public agencies, including municipalities, universities, colleges, school boards, and hospitals are required to submit reports: https://lnkd.in/ec2aTTqH Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) | Electricity Distributors Association | Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO) | ICSC | Ontario Energy Board | Ontario Water Works Association | REALPAC | City of Toronto | The Complete Group of Companies

The Senate agreed to a Select Committee to inquire into Energy Planning and Regulation in Australia. The main aim of this inquiry is to bring some transparency and accountability into how the energy system is planned and how it may best decarbonise our grid as quickly as possible. Emissions from electricity generation make up nearly one-third of Australia's overall emissions, therefore getting the transition to a zero emissions energy system is of utmost importance, however, given the current structures there has been insufficient public accountability of the decisions made in guiding this. As Committee Chair, I invite a diverse range of stakeholders with experience and expertise in energy transition policy, planning, and regulation to share their insights with us. This Inquiry aims to bring transparency and accountability to decisions made in system planning to ensure they satisfy the National Electricity Objectives equally. The committee encourages the lodgement of submissions by 18 October 2024. Terms of reference are available on the Committee’s website. The Department of Trade Industry and Competition (DTIC) gazetted a minimum energy efficiency standard for light bulbs, which will come into effect on 23 May 2024. There will be a ban on the sale of inefficient light bulbs once the standard is fully implemented, at the end of the year. Aligned with international specifications, this standard aims to conserve energy by adopting safer, higher-performing and more energy-efficient light bulbs. Currently, LEDs are the only light bulbs that meet the minimum efficiency and despite having a higher upfront purchase cost they ultimately result in longer-term energy cost savings. At BlackPeak Energy we have advised our EPC clients on the benefits of changing to LED lightbulbs to save on energy costs.
