What is Our Land For? Last week, our Managing Director Paul Christian, joined the South of England Agricultural Society Farming Conference 2024 to discuss this critical question. Hosted by BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today presenter Charlotte Smith, the panel featured experts from across the sector, including: Tom Heap, Writer & Broadcaster; Ben Taylor Managing Director, Iford Estate and Tim Slaney, CEO, South Downs National Park. Each panelist shared their views and expertise and key themes included: *Balancing the competing demands on land: food production, carbon capture, renewable energy, and biodiversity. *The importance of regenerative farming, despite the challenges it presents. * Advocating for food production, with a focus on improving profitability for farmers while safeguarding land for future generations. Paul emphasised the need for clear government policies with macro objectives to support farmers post-CAP. He also highlighted the value of food provenance, the benefits of seasonal eating, and the great strides farmers are making in adopting sustainable practices. His message to policymakers? Stop talking about farmers and start talking to them. Thank you to the South of England Agricultural Society for hosting this important discussion. Together, we can shape a sustainable future for our land. #FarmingFuture #SustainableAgriculture #RegenerativeFarming

Growing up in a farming state, I have a deep appreciation for the industry and people that power the food supply chain and thoroughly enjoyed the panel on regenerative agriculture at day 2 of #FTMoralMoney. One of the panelists, from a global potato producer, indicated that in the past (10+ years) they dealt with 1 weather related crisis per year. Now, it’s closer to 15. Combating climate change through regenerative agriculture starts with farmers. Building partnerships with farmers through education, financing and incentives will support a more resilient food supply chain.

Regenerative has arrived! Policies, regulation, legislation, corporate commitments, and investment funds are turning their attention to the power of regenerative agriculture. Why? Because regenerative ag builds resilience and healthier soils, reduces risk, and enables beneficial systemic outcomes for climate, the environment, farmer well-being, healthy food, and much more. It’s 4 weeks until the 2024 Regenerative Food Systems Investment Forum in Denver and we're getting ready to dig deep on how capital and innovation are the critical levers that will move regenerative farming forward. This is THE gathering for learning the why, how and where to invest capital in agriculture and food for financial and impact returns. We’ll be there with our partner, Eric Morgan of Braga Fresh Family Farms to discuss how to transition to regenerative farming at scale. 🌳 I recently visited a friend's farm that grows almonds, pistachios and olives. 🤌 One-third of the world's food production and 32% of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions originate from smallholder farms. 💰 Businesses are still working towards scaling up and successfully supporting farmers in the shift to regenerative agriculture. Despite the challenges, there is some good news: 🙌🏻 I recently read that investors are gearing up to boost funding for new farming methods by 15% in their upcoming investment rounds. 📊 The data speaks volumes – addressing the smallholder challenge is crucial for ensuring food security and meeting climate objectives. #Agriculture #RegenerativeFarming #Sustainability #Investment #FoodSecurity #ClimateAction
