The Meloni Government delivered the new PNIEC Italy, the Integrated National Plan for Energy and Climate, to the European Commission on 1st July 2024. 📌 The document, in its 491 pages, revises and updates the text approved in 2019, trying to raise the energy-environmental commitments for 2030. 🔎 This is a necessary revision in light of what is required by the new Community rules, but which is not convincing to the utmost. Both in terms of emissions and renewable energy. 👉 To understand the scope of national commitments poured into the new PNIEC 2024, we must take a few steps backward. ⬇️ Link in the first comment #RinnovabiliNET #environmnent #greeneconomy #solar #eolic #energy #greenenergy #solarenergy #windenergy #sustainable #sustainablity #sustainabledevelopment

The EU's Green Leap: A Model for Sustainable Future The European Union (EU) has established a comprehensive regulatory framework to drive its ambitious climate goals and achieve net-zero emissions. Key regulatory policies such as the Emissions Trading System (ETS), Renewable Energy Directive, Energy Efficiency Directive, and the Clean Energy Package have spurred significant investments in energy efficiency and sustainable technologies. These include renewable energy sources (solar, wind), energy-efficient buildings and appliances, electric vehicles, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, and hydrogen technologies. By combining these regulatory measures and technological advancements, the EU is well-positioned to lead the global transition to a low-carbon economy and achieve its ambitious climate goals. Moreover, the EU's focus on energy efficiency and sustainable technologies has not only contributed to environmental sustainability but has also bolstered its energy security, making it a resilient and prosperous region. #Europeanunion #energysecurity #decarbonization #CCUS #greenhydrogen #climatechange

💡 Did you check our new article on the second generation EU legislation for energy communities? Together with my colleagues, Dirk Vansintjan and Felix Kriedemann, we published a EUSEW blog titled 'EU Energy Communities legislation 2.0: an upwards trend'. Touching upon the latest developments on EU legislation, we highlight that the EU Directives further acknowledge the role of energy communities in contributing to the ambitious renewables and energy efficiency targets. "Positively, the second-generation EU legislation clarifies that citizen-led initiatives actively contribute to other activities, including renovations, the alleviation of energy poverty, energy efficiency, offshore wind and heating and cooling." Read our EUSEW blog here: https://lnkd.in/dkzDCWRD I am looking forward to further discussing the topic of energy communities in this year's EUSEW Conference! The European Commission has given the green light ✅ to a €1.2 billion scheme aimed at supporting investments in renewable equipment in Poland. The assistance will offer direct grants💰 to companies in Poland that are engaged in the production of batteries🔋, solar panels☀️, wind turbines💨, heat pumps🥵, electrolyzers⚡️, and carbon capture equipment🌳. Additionally, it will back companies that manufacture components or raw materials necessary for the production of renewable equipment. 💪 Margrethe Vestager, the executive vice-president of the European Commission in charge of competition policy, stated that this investment is in harmony with the objectives of the Green Deal Industrial Plan and the EU’s goal of climate neutrality. 🌱 The commission noted that the state aid program was adopted in March 2023 and enables EU member states to provide aid to expedite their green energy transition⚡️. ❓ WHAT ARE THE PROJECT'S INTENDED BENEFITS TO SOCIETY? 💡 With the growth of renewable energy sources and a drive by policymakers at both national and European level to reduce the effects of climate change, the energy sector in Ireland is undergoing rapid change to meet the goals defined in programmes such as the Climate Action Plan and Net Zero Roadmap. Smart Grid Control – CyberPhysical Sandbox (SGC-CyPhySandbox) aims to further the goal of reducing the effects of climate change by addressing the challenges of deploying renewable energy sources to the grid, increasing their uptake. The two-year project partners Walton Institute at South East Technological University (SETU), University College Dublin (UCD) and NovoGrid. It is co-ordinated by UCD’s Terence O'Donnell and co-funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)'s Research, Development and Demonstration Fund and ESB Networks. #smartenergy #smartgrid #decarbonisation #researchproject
