They are a rare breed, but we've all seen them: Products that look the same, year after year. In a time where fast-fashion pumps out a new collection each week, Suston explores what makes "classics" or "carry-overs" endure the test of time - and what this means for their environmental impact. When Jacinta invited me to the Mindful Fashion New Zealand awards evening on Wednesday, I didn't read the invite and rocked up like a SPCA rescue onto a James Bond film set... But the kaupapa was incredible. With over 92 million tonnes of garments ending up in landfills globally every year, it's important we celebrate the innovators pushing the sector towards circularity... Like the mahi Jeff Ward is doing with Offcut and James Griffin (A.K.A the worlds sexiest Librarian) from Sustainable Business Network Just to name a very few legends in the room that evening. And we're thrilled to tautoko the evening with @Critical. Cleanstone which was used for the awards as well as this beautiful installation using the Forest Cleanstone, made by our mates at Spacebar Design. As a our current and next generation is shifting the future of fashion and construction toward circularity, events like these are what's shifting the eco-system towards something we should have done a long time ago. Ngā mihi nui Jacinta FitzGerald for the mahi you fullas do and for letting us be a part of it in a small way!! #SustainableFashion #CircularEconomy #EcoInnovation #GreenBuilding #RecycledMaterials #MindfulFashion #WasteReduction #SustainableDesign #Cleanstone #CircularFashion #SustainableBusiness #EcoFriendlyDesign #FashionInnovation #SustainableAwards #ZeroWaste #ConsciousConsumer #ClimateAction #GreenConstruction #FashionForChange #InnovationInFashion

🍾🍾🍾 Fitting that on #Nationalcocktailday that Stella McCartney and Veuve Clicquot announce they have, “joined forces on a pioneering leather alternative; the material is grape-based. The by-products of Veuve Clicquot’s harvest has been used to handcraft six Stella McCartney accessories, which first made their runway debut as part of the Summer ’24 collection at Paris Fashion Week.” 📢”I am so thrilled to be part of this first-of-its-kind partnership between a fashion house and a champagne Maison – connected by our shared passions for sustainability, craftsmanship and innovation. This collaboration is the perfect blend of my cruelty-free vision with Veuve Clicquot’s incredible natural ingredients, using waste to circularly create a luxurious alternative to animal leather that can be easily scaled and change the industry. You truly cannot tell the difference; this is a better way,” said McCartney. 👜According to Felicity Carter in Forbes, “The collaboration collection consists of three Frayme bags, a bottle holder that perfectly houses a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label and two Elyse sandals, which feature a platform wedge made from recycled cork collected from Veuve Clicquot as a mix of pre-and post-consumer waste from its cellars in Reims.” #sustainabilty #bestinclass #creativity #bubbles #innovation #smartchoices #planetfriendly

Superior Sustainability: Why Plant Leather Leads the Way at Green Hermitage As advocates for sustainable fashion, we believe in transparency and informed choices when it comes to selecting materials. Today, let's explore the unparalleled advantages of plant-based leather over PU (polyurethane) or faux leather alternatives, showcasing why Green Hermitage stands at the forefront of conscious consumerism: Environmental Impact: Plant leather, derived from sustainable sources like cactus or cork, boasts a significantly lower environmental footprint compared to PU leather, which is a synthetic material derived from petrochemicals. By opting for plant leather, you are actively reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting eco-friendly production practices. Biodegradability: Unlike PU leather, which is non-biodegradable and contributes to the mounting waste crisis, plant-based leather can naturally decompose over time, minimizing its impact on landfills and ecosystems. Choosing plant leather aligns with a circular economy model, where materials can be recycled or returned to the earth at the end of their lifecycle. Renewable Resources: Plant leather harnesses the power of renewable resources, such as agricultural by-products and fruit waste, to create stylish and sustainable materials. This contrasts with PU leather, which requires energy-intensive manufacturing processes and contributes to resource depletion. By supporting plant leather, you are championing resource efficiency and circularity in fashion. Quality and Aesthetics: Beyond its eco-friendly advantages, plant leather excels in quality, durability, and aesthetic appeal. The natural textures and unique characteristics of plant-based materials offer a luxurious alternative to PU leather, ensuring that style and sustainability go hand in hand at Green Hermitage. Join us in embracing the superior sustainability of plant leather over PU or faux leather, and make a conscientious choice that reflects your values and commitment to a greener future for fashion. Together, we can redefine style with purpose and make a positive impact, one plant-based accessory at a time. #GreenHermitage #PlantLeatherAdvantages #SustainableFashion #ConsciousConsumerism

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁? In a world full of “same old, same old” diaries, the 𝗡𝗲𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 stands apart. I get it—there are plenty of options out there. But how many combine 𝗲𝗰𝗼-𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 with real style? This year, we took things a step further at Thefuture.green. We didn’t just stick to recycled paper; we designed a diary that looks and feels different, down to the last detail. A cover made from pure, durable 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗺 (yep, 100% cotton), complete with 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰 and a 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸. Not only is it eco-friendly, but it’s also got a look that makes it more than just a diary. It’s a conversation starter. And if you are thinking of corporate gifting, we added a customizable band for branding. So, it’s 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹, 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵, and sends a message that your brand cares about the planet—without shouting it. Whether you are gifting it or keeping it for yourself, this diary quietly says, “I’m all about 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, with a touch of 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲.” 𝗗𝗠 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 (𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲) 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀. #NeoDiary #TheFutureGreen #EcoFriendlyGifting #SustainableGifts #ThoughtfulGifting #GreenLiving #EcoInnovation #MindfulChoices #SustainableStyle #EcoFriendlyDiary

In the evolving landscape of materials, both plant-based leather and genuine leather are emerging as significant alternatives to synthetic or faux leather. Plant-based leather, derived from sources like pineapple leaves, cactus, or mushrooms, offers a sustainable and eco-friendly option, reducing environmental impact and aligning with ethical consumer choices. Genuine leather, valued for its durability, longevity, and natural quality, remains a staple in many industries, promoting the use of by-products from the meat industry and supporting traditional craftsmanship. While synthetic or faux leather might offer affordability and variety, it often falls short in terms of environmental sustainability and longevity. By embracing both plant-based and genuine leather, we can support a balanced approach that values innovation, tradition, and the planet's well-being. Let's champion materials that not only meet our needs but also contribute to a more sustainable future. #Sustainability #Innovation #EcoFriendly #LeatherCraftsmanship

I cannot think of one career in my family that hasn't looked to innovations in design and technology to 'get the job done'. In my family, we have everything from farmers to defence workers, software engineers to architects and even costume designers, so I have often thought it a little peculiar that Design and Technology isn't given the attention that it deserves on the curriculum. Combining science, innovation and technology, with art and creativity will help turbocharge the UK towards a more sustainable future, inspiring entrepreneurship and innovation. One trailblazer in this space is Jenny Morisetti - Chair of Sustainable Dorset, organiser of Dorset COP, and owner of Defashion Dorset. Defashion Dorset goes beyond teaching sewing skills to emphasise the importance of 'make do and mend' - it also educates people on the true cost of fast fashion. (Did you know that textile production emits 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases yearly, surpassing emissions from all international flights and maritime ships combined?) Think how much money could be saved if people knew how to let out a waistband or fix wear and tear? If enough people use those skills, it sends a message to the fashion industry - that us Brits like quality, not quantity. (Even the late Queen Elizabeth agreed...she repaired her bedsheets, don't you know!) Defashion Dorset will be at Sustainable Fashion Week in Dorset from September 20th to 29th, 2024.
