Zonken Food and Agriculture Ltd, a Chinese firm, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Njeru Industries Ltd, a tea processor based in Meru County, Kenya, to enhance value addition and boost the export of Kenyan tea to overseas markets. The MoU signing took place at the Nairobi International Cultural Festival, underscoring China's rich tea heritage and its partnership potential with Kenya. Under the agreement, Chinese tea experts will collaborate with Njeru Industries to impart advanced tea processing techniques, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of Kenyan tea in international markets. This partnership is set to transform the tea subsector, which plays a crucial role in Kenya's economy, contributing about 23% to the country’s foreign exchange earnings. Henry Njeru, managing director of Njeru Industries, highlighted the importance of this MoU in facilitating the exchange of skills and technologies. He emphasized the potential for Kenya to learn from China's centuries-old tea production techniques, which include diverse varieties like green and purple tea, promising better health outcomes for consumers worldwide. Joseph M’eruaki M’uthari, chairman of the Board of Directors at Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service, commended the partnership for its potential to open up greater access to the lucrative Chinese market. 🌾 Launching a Collaborative Research Project on Agricultural Preparedness and Emergency Response 🌏 The ASOSAI (Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions) Working Group on Crisis Management Audit (WGCMA) has launched a joint research project titled "Enhancing Preparedness and Emergency Response in the Agricultural Sector". This initiative includes participation from SAIs across Asia, including Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea, Nepal, Russia, Myanmar, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Thailand. The online meeting on 9th December 2024 featured discussions on strategies for regional food security. Key highlights included: ✅ Opening Remarks by representatives from SAI Korea and Mrs. Klednatee Manosanti, Deputy Auditor General of Thailand. ✅ Lecture on "Food Security in Asia" by Asst.
