Absolutely love this! I often find myself in the same boat, struggling to cover a wealth of information in minimal time. That's why I advocate for, at a minimum, providing space at the start of the session for learners to start the discussion on the topic at hand. This approach not only engages them from the get-go but also shifts the focus from merely delivering information to facilitating a meaningful learning experience. The distinction between an information session and a learning experience is crucial. It significantly impacts how participants engage and what they ultimately take away from the session. #LearningAndDevelopment #AdultLearning #FacilitationSkills

Whatever happens next—resist the urge to teach. It's the best advice for Learning Facilitators. —Resist the urge to teach. Even if just for a little while. In 1978, Slamecka and Graf ran the generation effect study, which shows that learning outcomes are significantly enhanced when learners generate information themselves (as opposed to passively receiving it). —Can you let them explain the concepts first? —Can you ask them to create something with very little context details? —Can you create ambiguity with one of the activities and invite them to untangle it? —Can you give them a complex task without much guidance and let them attempt solutions before explaining the most efficient method? If you only ask yourself one question, let it be this one: How can I make them think for themselves? 🧠 You might discover that our "learners" know things, too. 😆 #learningdesign #learningfacilitation #learning #learninganddevelopment #facilitation

To say there is a lot of boring and/or bad eLearning out there isn't a controversial statement. This Ted talk emphasizes that scenario and story telling are effective ways to teach complex skills. I love using scenarios in eLearning when I can. Some real food for thought the next time you're asked to create a web-based training (WBT) or eLearning module: https://lnkd.in/gf_F-k6k

Course vs Cohort: What’s the Difference? When it comes to learning, the terms course and cohort are often used, but they mean different things. Let's break it down: 🎓 Course A course refers to a structured program of study focused on a specific subject or skill. It includes lessons, lectures, assignments, and assessments designed to teach you everything you need to know about that topic. A course can be taken individually or as part of a program. You can usually take a course at your own pace or follow a set schedule. 👥 Cohort A cohort refers to a group of learners who progress through a course or program together. Cohorts are often used in programs that emphasize collaboration, networking, and community-building. This learning model encourages students to interact, share insights, and support each other as they work through the course content together. ✨ Key Differences A course is the content or subject matter you're learning. A cohort is the group of people you’re learning alongside in a structured setting. So, whether you're diving into a solo study or joining a community of learners, understanding these terms helps you choose the best path for your educational journey! 😊 #Learning #Education #CourseVsCohort #StudentJourney #StudyTips

Learning Pyramid Ever wonder why learning by teaching others is so effective? The Learning Pyramid illustrates different methods of learning and their corresponding retention rates. According to this model, teaching others leads to a whopping 90% retention rate, compared to just 5% for lectures! Here's why teaching is such a powerful tool: • Solidifies understanding: Explaining concepts to others forces you to organize your knowledge and identify any gaps in your own understanding. • Boosts recall: Recalling information to teach it strengthens memory pathways. • Enhances communication: Articulating ideas clearly and concisely improves your communication skills. So next time you're learning something new, consider sharing your knowledge with others. You'll be surprised at how much you retain! #learning #learninganddevelopment #education #professionaldevelopment
