Thank you to the dispute resolution team at Latham & Watkins for inviting me to speak to you yesterday about mediation and navigating the process. Particular thanks to Nell Perks for your input into the session. We covered preparation, positional and interests based negotiation, whether there are particular types of disputes that are amenable to mediation or particular points in the DR process when you should mediate, the added considerations when mediating cross-jurisdictional disputes, helpful tools when framing offers and negotiating and ideas on how you can help others to shift their stance during settlement discussions. I always enjoy delivering these sessions and particularly enjoyed answering questions and facilitating discussion within the team. #mediation #disputeresolution

The market for experienced legal talent got even more competitive this year in Atlanta as more lawyers moved to partner-level positions with Am Law 200 firms—including two national firms that opened new offices in the city. A Daily Report analysis showed the number of lateral partners moving to Am Law 200 firms in Atlanta was about 12% higher this year than in 2023, with more than 1 of every 3 lawyers moving to any of four firms: Barnes & Thornburg, Bradley Arant Boult Cummings and new offices of Clark Hill and Buchalter. Lawyers moving with litigation-based practices to new firms in Atlanta did so in almost every month of 2024—and in numbers comparable to 2023—in such specialized areas as white-collar crime, professional liability defense and complex commercial disputes. . . . #lawfirmgrowth #lateralhiring #jobsearch #revenue #promotion #law #mergersandacquisitions #healthcarelaw #transactionallaw #IPlaw #litigation #flexibility #lawfirms #atlantalawyer #legalrecruiting #AtlantaLegalRecruiters #theRMNagency #legalrecruitingfirm #legalrecruiter #legalrecruiters #legalsearch #atlantalegalrecruiters #atlantalawfirms #biglaw #smalllawfirm #inhousecounsel #associate #partner

The 2023 Leopard Law Firm Index (#LLFI2023) saw six new firms make a splash into the top 20 rankings, including the impressive leap of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Affiliates, jumping from #40 the year before to #10 in 2023! What were some key factors in their jump? 📈 With a 3% growth and a 2% boost in ethnic diversity (now at 25%), the firm predominantly focused on entry-level hiring, adding 166 new and 65 lateral attorneys. Despite slower growth in 2023, firms stepped up their game, boosting their average LLFI score with enhanced ROI in both new and lateral hiring. This uptick highlights the importance of strategic hiring and improved attorney retention for firms aiming to thrive in the competitive legal landscape. Curious where your firm stands? It was great to attend the launch of the UKJT's third Legal Statement on Digital Assets and English Insolvency Law last night. Highlights for me included Chrissy Hill's description of crypto founders/builders as artists, and their canvas is code; and the lively (almost off topic) discussion around DAOs and the novel issues thrown up around the use of restructuring/enforcement tools for these (as Carmel King aptly described them) companies which aren't companies. But the fundamental message of the night, and of the Legal Statement - and as I discussed with Global Restructuring Review - is that there are fundamentally no great surprises in the Legal Statement, in that English law (and in particular English insolvency law) is and should continue to be sufficiently flexible to adapt to the emerging digital assets landscape, and R&I professionals (as well as founders and investors in the crypto space) should take comfort in the fact of the certainty and predictability that English law provides at all stages of a company's economic cycle (although there will continue to be novel issues thrown up by this space, and plenty of questions (including those not even thought up yet) which are yet to be answered in a very fact-specific way). Well done to the UKJT and in particular to the drafting team.
Tomorrow is the launch of the Legal Statement of the UK Jurisdiction Taskforce. We’ll be joined by the below expert speakers to discuss the key findings of the Public Consultation and share their insights from the Legal Statement: Master of the Rolls Sir Geoffrey Vos David Quest KC, Barrister, 3 Verulam Buildings Lawrence Akka KC, IT and Commercial Lawyer (Barrister) and Arbitrator Inga West, Restructuring and Insolvency Counsel at Ashurst LLP Ben Luxford, Head Of Technical at R3 Carmel King, Director at Grant Thornton UK LLP Chrissy Hill, Chief Legal Officer and interim Chief Operating Officer at Parity Technologies Hannah Crawford, Partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP Aleksandra Wawrzyszczuk, LawtechUK and CodeBase There’s still time to register to attend – secure your spot today: https://lnkd.in/esEKTpYE #LegalTech #LawTech #LegalStatement #LegalTransformation #UKJT

Class actions are set for significant growth across the globe and law firms that corner the market could reap big rewards. Here, I look at the latest developments across the U.S., U.K., Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America to show how litigation funding and group litigation are on the up and how the potential market is huge. Kirkland cornered a lucrative part of the industry, perhaps a similar opportunity exists here... https://lnkd.in/ebCmk_K4 #classactions #litigationfunding #lawfirms
