𝐄𝐏𝐏 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 2024 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬 Last week our Managing Director Dick Kroot and Sales Manager Joost van de Wijgert visited the EPP Congress in Nantes. The French organizing committee had put together a varied program with current topics. It was a very educational congress, focusing on the question “How to engage the consumer? At Looop, we keep a close eye on the (sustainable) developments within this sector. Indeed, the pig is the animal that fits perfectly into the envisioned circular agriculture. After all, Dutch pigs' feed consists for a considerable part of co-products originating from the food industry. Not unexpectedly, the Dutch pig has the lowest CO2 emissions in the world and plays a crucial role in preventing food waste! For decades, we’ve recognized the significant benefits of regenerative and organic farming practices for the health and vitality of our Mendocino County vineyards. Now we’re taking a closer look—beneath the surface! 🌱 We’re excited to partner with Agrology, a Public Benefit Corporation, to dig deeper (literally) into the soil health of our vineyards. We've recently begun gathering real-time insights into soil respiration, microbial activity, and carbon sequestration using Agrology's technology. We can now track improvements over time and gain a better understanding of the impact of our farming practices, especially as we adapt to a changing climate. Today, we’re sharing our first wave of findings, and we’re just getting started. Stay tuned for more as we build a foundation of data that will help guide us for years to come! It’s been my experience that the potato grower recognizes that while they are driving innovation and sustainability, they are also preserving a cultural legacy. Potatoes are more than just a crop—they are a symbol of the hardworking spirit that defines the potato grower. In the Red River Valley and beyond, potatoes have fed generations, and today, they continue to be a reliable and versatile food source in an ever-changing world. This cultural importance is reflected in the stories we hear from farmers like those in the Red River Valley, who share how potato growing has been passed down through generations, adapting to new technologies while holding onto traditions. As we move into the future, the role of potatoes in global food security will only grow. Their ability to thrive in diverse climates and their high nutritional value make them a cornerstone of feeding the world’s growing population.
