Are we ready for autonomous driving? Waymo & Jimmy Kimmel played a prank on his Auntie, but also shows the trust new technologies need to establish to be accepted by society. In 2021, Waymo has announced its collaboration with ZEEKR极氪 to integrate the Waymo Driver system into an all-electric Zeekr vehicle. First Zeekr vehicles with Waymo technology have been running on Californian streets since 2024. Robotaxis are not a thing of the far future but closer than we think. As an individual deeply passionate about #IT, electric vehicles (#EV), and #broadcastmedia, I've transformed these interests from mere hobbies into full-fledged professions. Coming from a lineage of electricians and electrical engineers, I've witnessed firsthand how technological advancements have profoundly shaped our lifestyles and work environments. Much like the groundbreaking home computing revolution of the 1980s, I find myself at the forefront of today's EV revolution. Beyond being an enthusiast, I've become actively involved as a manufacturer with our company XOTO inc., producing electric motorcycles. Additionally, I've embraced the role of an influencer, documenting extensive EV journeys with impressive statistics to share: Accumulating 250,000 miles on my second Tesla, which remains my primary vehicle. Logging over 55,000+ miles on three Harley Davidson EV motorcycles, including two cross-country runs and one cannonball run. Despite the prevalent pessimism surrounding the mass adoption of EVs, I firmly believe in the inevitability and permanence of this transformative shift. While challenges persist, it's evident that EVs are here to stay. Recently, I had the opportunity to test ride LiveWire's latest EV motorcycle, released just months after their previous model. Through a straightforward review, I offered insights based on my firsthand experience with the vehicle. Witnessing such advancements reaffirms my optimism for the future of EV technology. I'm not advocating for EVs to replace traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles outright, but rather emphasizing the importance of having options in mobility. The freedom to choose between EVs and #ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles marks a significant milestone in transportation evolution. I invite you to watch my latest video documenting my inaugural ride on LiveWire's newest offering. It serves as a testament to the ongoing progress and promising future of electric mobility. https://lnkd.in/g6e3M9QT

🚲 🚶♀️ 🚌 🚗 Today I learned a new term: "Motonormativity," coined by Professor Ian Walker. It refers to how our society is car-cultured and more forgiving of cars and car-related behavior. This video from GCN explains it beautifully: https://lnkd.in/dhB2sakV Why are we so forgiving to cars? Everything around us tells us that "car is king," from ads to media reports about car accidents, and especially the built environment where cars come first. This includes lanes dedicated to cars rather than cyclists or pedestrians, automatic right of way for cars at intersections, wide intersections to maintain car speed, and countless other examples. What can we do? A few quotes from the video can help us understand: "We have to build it before the behavior changes." "Once you start to look, it is everywhere... and you can't unsee it." "People do what's easy, and over 70 years we made it so the easiest, most convenient way to get around is to jump in a car." "Every time anybody has introduced a change in the rules of the road, there has been controversy." "It is not about evidence and facts; it's about how people feel." I think we need to encourage more people (including policymakers) to start looking around, be bold in the changes we propose, and remember that people don't like change (even with drunk driving laws), but eventually, if we do it right, people will embrace the change. "If you build it, they will come" - it's from another movie, but it still applies! #Motonormativity #UrbanPlanning #ActiveTransport

🚁✨We're testing a new algorithm that keeps UAVs in formation even when they lose localization! These UAVs observe each other and navigate relatively to one another. The result? The formation stays stable, but it drifts away as a whole. Without this algorithm, each drone would fly in random directions and eventually crash. 👉Check out the experiment in action in this video: https://lnkd.in/dZj7qUsR 🔬This research was done in collaboration with Control of Networked Systems #swarmrobotics #UAVs #swarms #dronetech #research #mrsgroupprague

As we gaze into the future, one of the most significant shifts on the horizon is the evolution of personal transportation. For Generation Z, born between the late 1990s and early 2010s, driving embodies independence and freedom. However, their grandchildren are on the brink of encountering a distinct reality. The swift progress and widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles, guided by advanced artificial intelligence (AI), are primed to transform transportation, rendering driving an optional skill rather than a prerequisite. Explore why this matters! #futureoftransportation #autonomousvehicles #AI #generationZ

🧑🏫 Motornormativity - a word to describe the omnipresence of car culture, used here from UK University studies and reported on by GCN in the article 👇 👇 below 🚲 Disclaimer - I'm not usually a big fan of GCN, I find they're often more concerned with high-end bike stuff that's out of my price range - Here, however, they're reporting on the society-wide repercussions of relying on the motor car as the principal mode of transport - Essentially everyone normalises the use of the motor car and all other road users must make way for it - Even if you follow and understand these arguments, they raise some interesting ideas, and I urge you to check out the video 🧑🏫 Of particular interest was the way in which the same questions deliver different responses depending on whether or not the word 'car' is included in the question - We have so normalised car use, that we're prepared to bend over backwards and accept all kinds of inconveniences to accommodate it, rather than challenge it 🚲 Obviously as a non-driver I'm all in favour of other forms of transport and want to see priorities given to other options - fast! - If anyone's a driver then be aware, it's not your car that is the problem - it's the prevalence of roads, motor vehicles, pollution and accidents resulting from ubiquitous private motor vehicles that are the problem! 🚲 In every car advert I see, there's just one car driving happily along on its own, delivering the occupants to their destination safely and securely - The reality we see is bumper-to-bumper traffic in our cities, rampant pollution, millions of life-threatening accidents every year When asked to simply consider using their cars less, many drivers in the UK respond angrily, especially against cyclists who they feel shouldn't be on 'their' roads anyway 🧑🏫 I reckon car culture is normalised, but what do you reckon? - And is there a non-confrontational way to start a sensible conversation about this? ------------------------------------------------------------- As a bike fan and Business English coach I post on both topics, follow or connect if you don't want to miss any updates https://lnkd.in/d8-aEZ_C
