🩺 Tomorrow the Dutch Parliament will debate the Dutch Global Health Strategy. This strategy is the cornerstone of the Netherlands’ approach to global public health challenges. We, the Dutch Global Health Alliance, have been closely monitoring the development of this strategy. As a coalition of 20 civil society organizations, we call on the Dutch Parliament to fully endorse the strategy and give it the political and financial support it needs. We share several key asks and recommendations to strengthen the strategy: Increase non-Official Development Assistance contributions to the strategy. Develop a comprehensive implementation agenda with clear measurable qualitative and quantitative indicators. Put stringent conditions on government funding for pharmaceutical research, ensuring transparency and affordability. Ensure that public-private partnerships in healthcare are accompanied by robust regulations that safeguard equity and prioritize the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3 on health. 🔗 Read our full position article here https://bit.ly/3VIvn5y #GlobalHealth #HealthForAll #DutchGlobalHealthAlliance

Ensuring uninterrupted access to essential medicines for all EU citizens is of utmost importance. Poland, like other EU Member States, faces medicine shortages, a challenge exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. To solve the issue, the EU authorities have put this topic high on the priority agenda. The importance of the Critical Medicines Act, which aims to reduce dependencies on critical medicines and their ingredients, has also been emphasized in the European Commission's Political Guidelines for 2024-2029. Earlier, to better tackle medicine shortages, the Critical Medicines Alliance (CMA) was established in January 2024. CMA is a consultative platform that brings together key stakeholders from Member States, relevant industries, civil society representatives, and academia. Given these important developments, we are extremely enthused to announce that recently the Institute for Social Policy Development (IRSS) has officially joined the Critical Medicines Alliance (CMA), marking another important achievement and embarking on a new level of cooperation. Throughout our various initiatives, expert workshops, and conferences dedicated to shaping healthcare policy in Poland and the EU, we have been consistently raising this issue not only from the Polish perspective but also from the European one. We believe that Poland possesses the untapped potential to positively influence European medicine safety. We are pleased that the Polish government has also joined the Alliance, underscoring its dedication to addressing critical healthcare needs. Stay tuned for more updates as we start working on this incredible initiative. pl: https://lnkd.in/dhwHtNmH #IRSS #HealthcareForAll #CriticalMedicinesAlliance #SupplyChain #PublicHealth

RDI CEO Alexandra Heumber Perry gave a keynote address today at World Orphan Drug Congress USA, highlighting three main points: 1. The critical need to connect national, regional and global efforts: Health equity cannot be achieved in isolation - it requires a coordinated approach that transcends geographical boundaries 2. The key success of a multi-stakeholder approach: We must harness the collective expertise, resources and influence of governments, healthcare providers, industry stakeholds, advocacy groups and, most importantly, patients and their families. 3. the imperative for innovative solutions in healthcare financing for rare diseases: Traditional funding mechanisms often fall short in meeting the unique needs of individuals with rare conditions. High costs, limited market size and uncertain outcomes pose significant challenges. By embracing novel approaches such as value-based pricing, risk-sharing agreements, and innovate reimbursement models, we can ensure that cost is not a barrier to access. It's time to harness the power of collaboration, innovation and advocacy to build a world where every person living with a #raredisease has the opportunity to live a full and healthy life.
