ADVOCACY WIN: Inner West Council have had their TOD extension request rejected by the state govt. TODs come into force for Marrickville, Dulwich Hill & Ashfield from mid-Jan until they come up with an alternate plan. Meanwhile Canterbury-Bankstown have actually done their homework and will have their masterplan for Lakemba and Belmore come into force from mid-Jan. 👏 A real contrast between the council who’s been an engine of the city’s housing growth vs one which sits on its hands. Both councils were handed responsibility for the precincts along the Bankstown line in 2018, so nobody should have been blindsided here. Unlike Canterbury-Bankstown, Inner West didn’t do any pre-work, so they missed the December deadline to do their “place-based strategic planning” for the areas. Here’s to some 6 storey DAs in the New Year 🥂
This planning has been done twice for the IWC in 2013 and then the Stage 2b housing investigations about 2 years ago. This is literally the 3rd attempt at this work. What ever is happening at the IWC it’s not about housing people and fairly preparing for metro rail.

1wCould you please confirm that Inner West Council’s alternative strategic plans have been rejected. The press release in your link states that; “Inner West Council are in the process of undertaking a comprehensive LEP review. Once those plans are submitted to the Minns Government, if they go above and beyond the TOD SEPP controls, Council’s plans will supersede the TOD SEPP. The Minns Government is awaiting Council’s submission of masterplanning for the Ashfield, Dulwich Hill and Marrickville TOD SEPP sites. If council does not complete the strategic planning within the agreed timeframe, the TOD provisions will be applied in mid-January allowing Development Applications to be lodged under the Minns Labor Government’s policy. The TOD SEPP controls will remain in place until Council submit their own plans.” It seems that once the plans are received the TOD provisions will no longer apply which could either be before mid January or shortly afterwards. Is this correct ?
