It was great to get together this week with some of the best in the business from many of the key sectors of the property market in Cornwall, and discuss the potential impact of The Autumn Budget. Will the surprise increase to the second home stamp duty surcharge make an impact? The speed at which it came into effect was far from ideal. But when the initial 3% surcharge was introduced in 2016, buyers made adjustments relatively swiftly and that market soon got back to normal. The rumours of a considerable increase to second home CGT had my full attention, so there was certainly a sigh of relief to see that remain untouched. Overall, knowing what we are now dealing with brings some certainty at last. Add to that an increase in buyer confidence and demand for property with falling interest rates (which would be great to see again next week), there is plenty for the residential market to be encouraged by.
