Cabana use is divisive on social media, with many critical of beaches crowded with the portable structures and others noting the shade stands could obscure lifesavers’ view of the surf. Who needs to worry about the cost of living, when the principle of having a just amount of the sand on a beach is at stake! I feel a populist election campaign coming on.

Families do this with picnic shelters too. They send someone early in the morning to place a tablecloth and an esky down to 'reserve' the space for their families. Nothing new 🤷♀️
