There have been some posts about #onepageprofiles over the last two weeks and it is wonderful to see this example from Emily and her daughter. Lyse Edwards Lu Dash Kathleen McLoughlin
Today my daughter, who has been struggling for some time, met the care provider who will be supporting her for two afternoons a week. We were ready for the questions about the things she likes to do, how to communicate with her and what she wants from the service she’ll be getting! Mel shared her one-page profile that she updated ready for the meeting, some information about DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) and the person-centred outcomes we had developed using the Outcome Sequence. Interestingly, even though I run workshops teaching health, education and care providers about finding out what matters to someone and then developing outcomes with them, I did wonder whether I should share this as the parent of someone drawing on a service! It’s funny how different things feel when we don’t hold the ‘power’ but advocating for Mel by sharing her views felt good and reinforced the genuine feeling that we were all there in partnership for her. The team leader said how helpful it was and I am confident it will help the support workers to get to know Mel and their relationship to start in a different place. At the Institute for Relational Well-being (IRWB), we understand the profound impact that early attachment experiences have on our adult relationships and emotional well-being. Attachment theory, pioneered by psychologist John Bowlby, reveals how the bonds we form with caregivers in childhood lay the foundation for how we connect with others and regulate emotions throughout life. Our attachment history shapes the way we give and receive love, respond to stress and conflict, and view ourselves and the world. By developing a deeper understanding of your unique attachment style, you gain powerful insights into your relational patterns and any roadblocks to forming secure, fulfilling connections. This awareness is the first step to breaking free from unhelpful cycles, healing from past hurts, and cultivating relationships built on trust, intimacy and resilience. At IRWB, our skilled Therapists and Therapist Trainees draw upon attachment theory to help individuals and couples strengthen their bonds and their sense of secure connection - both to others and to themselves. An attachment-based approach provides a roadmap for growth and transformation in partnerships, family relationships, and personal challenges. As IRWB's executive director Dr. Veronica Viesca explains, "By understanding attachment, we gain insight into the ways we connect, love and experience emotions in our closest relationships." We look forward to sharing more insights and information about attachment theory and its application in fostering fulfilling relationships and enhanced well-being. #AttachmentTheory #RelationshipGoals #RelationshipAdvice
