Navigating Challenges in Small Charities - how are you supporting your community? At The Oxygen Works, we are facing unprecedented challenges due to the increasing demand for our services, rising costs, and reduced donations. Small charities like ours are under significant pressure to meet the growing needs of our community while managing financial constraints. We subsidise essential services such as HBOT, Theraplate, Physio, and wellbeing groups by over 50%, making it difficult to offer additional financial support. The financial landscape has made it hard for individuals to donate, yet the need for our services has never been greater. Our Oxygen Therapy Wellbeing Fund is one avenue of support, but maintaining it is becoming increasingly challenging. Support from communities and businesses to support small charities has arguably never been greater. "The Guide to Grants for Individuals in Need 2024/25" from Directory of Social Change (a copy of which is available at our centre), is an invaluable resource which lists charities offering nearly £376 million in grants, providing much-needed support to individuals. Together, we can make a difference, this I believe to be true. But I am also not sure whether it has ever felt more challenging than it does at the moment? We’re hoping to raise vital funds to give more children the chance of a brighter future. As part of our application, we need to secure promises of funding, called ‘Pledges’, which will be used to match fund any donations made to us during the campaign week (4 June - 18 June.) One donation, twice the impact! NEW: All levels of government announced new funding for the charitable sector during the pandemic. But how much did organizations net in total? And is the boost in funding here to stay? New data released by CRA last week show that between 2019 and 2021, total transfers from Canadian governments to the charitable sector increased by $30 billion — from $199 billion in 2019 to $228 billion in 2021. 📢 CAF's Corporate Giving 2024 Report: Key Insights Revealed! 📢 We’re excited to share the highlights from our latest report on corporate giving: 🔹 Generous Contributions: UK businesses collectively donated an impressive £4.29 billion in 2023. 🔹 Potential Impact: If all businesses donated at least 1% of their pre-tax profits, charities could receive an additional £5 billion annually. However, the report also uncovers some challenges: 🔹 FTSE 100 Donations: Fell to £1.82 billion in 2023, marking an 8.3% decline in real terms. 🔹 Donation Trends: Corporate giving has not kept pace with profits over the past decade, with a 13% drop in total donations. But we can’t let the fun – or support – stop here… As loved as Pudsey and the annual appeal is, it creates a challenge: income that’s heavily concentrated around this one night. So together with BBC Children in Need, we’ve been hard at work – to establish a year-round regular giving programme that brings ongoing support to children and communities throughout the UK. This exciting new initiative means the charity can make a deeper, lasting impact, with a more stable income stream allowing it to address growing needs. Right now, BBC Children in Need can only fund 1 in 8 organisations that ask for support. With this RG programme, we aim to change that by providing a way for supporters to make a monthly difference directly within their communities.
