Just as ONDC is disrupting retail, by offering every business a chance to compete with giants in the digital, NDC is reshaping the airline industry’s distribution model. GDS served its purpose, but in an API-driven world with technology-driven business architectures airlines needed more that is flexible, and scalable and that’s where NDC steps in. But NDC adoption hasn’t been easy. Airlines, travel agents, and corporate buyers face the challenge of transitioning from a familiar but outdated system to one that demands new infrastructure and a new mindset. Some say it’s too complex, too costly, and not worth the effort. Here’s the thing: We’ve seen this story before. ONDC was met with the same skepticism, yet today, businesses built on ONDC like magicpin and Namma Yatri are thriving. By investing in new infrastructure and adopting a forward-thinking approach, these businesses are now reaching customers and serving them better. Similarly, Airlines and travel businesses that are early adopters of NDC are already seeing the positive results of dynamic pricing, richer content, and most importantly, more control over their sales channels. Like the businesses thriving on ONDC, the airlines embracing NDC today are future-proofing themselves for a more flexible, customer-centric market.
