📢 “Every VC should become an impact and responsible investor”. I was thrilled to join Scott Arnell on the #SRI360 Podcast 🎙️to reflect on my journey, Serena’s story, and sustainable ambition. When we founded Serena in 2008, Marc Fournier, philippe hayat, and I set out to create the venture capital firm we wished we’d had as entrepreneurs — a hands-on partner that goes beyond capital to work closely with teams, helping them achieve their ambitions.  As of today, Serena is one of Europe's leading venture capital funds, with close to 1 billion € under management and a team of 35 professionals. ➡️ What makes us unique? Three important things in my view. 📈 First, our entrepreneurial DNA. Serena is more than a VC, it’s an entrepreneurial venture on its own, with the same execution challenges as a high-growth startup. 🎯 Second, our impact-driven mission: “We support the success of innovative and ambitious entrepreneurs to serve a better world”. In 2023, we formalized our long-standing commitment to impact by becoming a mission-driven company ("société à mission"), embedding societal and environmental objectives into every level of our operations. We integrated a thorough sustainability assessment process into every investment, ensuring that both financial and societal impacts are measurable and meaningful. 🤝 Third, our investment and operating model. We believe it's execution that makes the difference to the success of our portfolio companies. With this in mind, we have set up and enhanced over the years a unique hands-on operating framework to equip founders with the team, tools, expertise, and networks they need to save time in execution and scale. ➡️ My personal commitment to Serena goes beyond the VC world. I believe we need a systemic and holistic approach if we want to preserve our planet and fight against climate change, biodiversity loss, water scarcity, and soil degradation. 🌍 That’s why I completed the Climate Fresk training and became a facilitator to raise awareness of climate change. In 2022, I launched with my wife, Laure Lorphelin, and my three kids, Arthur, Margot and Pénélope, a family-endowed foundation, Terrahui, promoting biodiversity and nature conservation projects such as Coral Gardeners. 🌳 In our hyper-connected, fast-paced world, I believe we have lost touch with nature. Reconnecting with it is essential if we are to combat climate change and preserve wildlife and ecosystems. Personally, I enjoy hiking and forest bathing. blisce, a VC firm with offices in Paris and New York, is launching a new fund focused on climate tech, aiming to raise up to €150 million ($162 million). Pierre-Edouard BERION will lead the fund, with Lucie Basch of Too Good To Go supporting as a venture partner. Founded by entrepreneur-turned-philanthropist Alexandre MARS, Blisce is known for its investments in consumer tech unicorns like Spotify and Pinterest. Blisce has a history of successful investments but is new to climate tech. The new fund will target startups in high-pollution industries such as materials, food, construction, mobility, and energy. Italian VC Primo Ventures raises $40 million to invest in early stage climate startups #PrimoVentures has announced the first closing of its new venture capital fund, Primo Climate, raising over €40 million to invest in early-stage startups in the climatetech sector. The fund, managed by partners Ezio Ravaccia, Giusy Cannone, and Simone Molteni, aims to accelerate the ecological transition by targeting a total of €60 million. Backed by CDP Venture Capital SGR, the Green Transition Fund, and resources from the NextGeneration EU initiative, Primo Climate focuses on stimulating innovation in green transition sectors. The fund is set to support companies developing cutting-edge technologies in areas such as solar energy, alternative mobility, lithium batteries, green hydrogen, renewable energy, and geothermal solutions. The partners, who collectively bring 75 years of experience in investment and sustainability, emphasize the importance of being key players in the industrial revolution of climate technology. With scouting activities already underway, Primo Climate aims to announce its first investments in the latter half of the year. Agostino SCORNAJENCHI, CEO of CDP Venture Capital, highlighted the long-term commitment to promoting sustainable technologies that address environmental challenges. Primo Climate will leverage its partnership with LifeGate, a sustainability leader in Italy, to provide advisory support and develop methodologies for accurately measuring emissions reduction. Primo Climate plans to invest in 10-13 companies, focusing on sectors like energy efficiency, renewables, mobility, circular economy, waste management, and energy storage. The fund's activities will primarily concentrate on Italy, enhancing the country's resilience and international standing in sustainability. Gianluca Dettori, president of Primo Ventures, expressed pride in expanding their independent investment platform with this fourth vertical dedicated to climate tech.
