What does it mean when we say voiceover is often last-minute? ⏰ Last week I got an email at 11:52 am from one of my favorite ad studios asking if I could do a session at 12:00. Yes, as in, “in 8 minutes” from that very moment of first notification. I was actually out for a daily walk and asked if they could do 12:30. “Let me check with the client.” I started running back home in case (unexpected cardio!) so I could be in the booth ASAP. 🏃🏽♀️🎙 At 12:03 I got the green light for a 12:30 session, at 12:24 I received the SessionLink Pro links to connect to the session, and at 12:30 I saw the script for the first time live with the client on the line. Everything went smoothly and they got exactly what they needed by 1 pm. For anyone tracking the time, that’s a happy client in a little over an hour from first contact to finished session. Who says AI is the only way to get fast audio? 😜 Sometimes people ask why I don’t plan a lot during the week and stick pretty close to home. Well, friends, I think this little snapshot shows why. STAY READY TO BE READY. ✨ One of my newer mantras :) Oh, and bonus points. The whole session was conducted in Spanish. My confidence in that skillset is growing, too. ❤️ Does your work include last-minute requests? #VoiceoverArtist #RemoteRecording #AdvertisingAgency #AdvertisingAgencies * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ☀️ I’m Sion, an American voice actor in sunny Spain. 💥 Superpowers: storytelling, script analysis, and providing stellar service. ✉️ DM me to discuss your VO needs!

Day 3 Things I wish I knew as a V.O artist part 2 4. Practice makes perfect: Previously, I could go a week and more without even reading out a script or watching a video or even doing vocal warm ups but I began to see VO as a career path so I braced up. If you're willing to take VO seriously, you actually need to practice everyday, every time. Read every billboard, sign post, flier and what not aloud, never go a day without practicing. 5. Shamelessly create content: I'm still in this process because i used to think content was not my thing, but to be frank was it ever anyone's? There are 1001 Nigerian voiceover artist and new ones are rising as well. For the sake of visibility, you need to actually create content and build your online presence by posting your works and any other creative content you come up with. 6. You need to know what your voice can do: Are you a native VOA? Stick with that and carefully diversify. Do you do pigin or English? Commercial or narration? Do you prefer your voice on animation or IVR? How many impressions can you do? Select them, be conversant with them and then carefully, diversify into other types. It'll help reduce confusion and overwhelming feeling. I love all types of voicovers but I could also be identified with 3 or 4 types. Bonus: Remember that it can only get better so keep practicing! You’ve probably watched a documentary style video in which a narrator leads you through the story. In professional jargon, this is called: the voiceover. At ESCI, we like to work with voiceover artists who give our videos a characteristic audio signature and the right nuance of emotion. But sometimes, we call our team member with professional voice training to the mic. 🎙️ For this occasion, we transform a simple room into an audio-recording studio, complete with high-quality microphones, studio headphones, and monitors for precise monitoring and adjustments of the sound recording. We also set up noise absorbers and a makeshift acoustic backdrop made from a thick curtain to ensure no outside noise would be recorded and to minimise unwanted echoes. 🔊✨ It's not just about the technical setup, but also about the voice acting. Last week, Laura Durnford stepped up to the mic. To get those smooth, professional narrations for the project videos, Laura adjusted her tone and pace to fit the topic and mood of the video. She seamlessly narrated translated interviews, with clear pronunciation and just the right emphasis matching the original speakers' tempo and style. 🗣️💬 Check out the behind-the-scenes footage of Laura in action for: Sound on! 🎧 By the way, the video we produced was for the GO-GRASS project. The team behind this project has developed methods to turn unused grass into protein feed, paper, biochar and bedding for horses, cows and pigs; creating sustainable products from a waste material. #Voiceover #BehindTheScenes

✨ ORGANISED VS IMPROVISED! ✨ There are pros and cons to both, depending on the situation. Here is an example: ORGANISED: 👍🏻 - I love having a colour coded diary so I know exactly what I'm doing and when I'm doing it. 👎🏻 - The perfectionist in me gets fixated. IMPROVISED: 👍🏻 - I enjoy the spontaneity and creativity of performing a song or adding flair to a voiceover recording. 👎🏻 - The client may just want it as it is so learning to listen is key. Do you have more of an organised or improvised way of working? I like to dabble in both but once again, it all depends on the situation at hand #organised #improvised #createaperfectharmonytogether
