The first 10 SEO steps I take when optimizing an E-commerce store Whenever I start working with a client who is new to e-commerce and hasn’t started SEO yet, these are the few things I usually begin within on-page SEO. Keyword Research: It's obvious but crucial—start with thorough keyword research. I typically use tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or Ubersuggest to find relevant keywords. Product Titles and Descriptions: Ensure that product page and category page titles and descriptions include your target keywords naturally. Make them compelling and informative. High-Quality Content: Product descriptions, category pages, and blog content should target keywords, answer customer questions, and provide useful information. Image Optimization: Use high-quality images (not too large) and optimize them by adding descriptive alt text with relevant keywords. This practice enhances both SEO and user experience. Meta Tags and Descriptions: Meta titles and meta descriptions should be concise, include primary keywords, and encourage users to click through to your site. URL Structure: Keep URLs clean, avoid long, complex URLs; instead, make them short and readable. Internal Linking: Create a robust internal linking structure. Link your blogs on your product and category pages, and ensure every blog contains 3-5 internal links. This helps search engines understand your site’s structure. Mobile-Friendliness: With a significant amount of traffic coming from mobile devices, ensure your e-commerce site is mobile-friendly. Page Speed: Every user loves a fast-loading site. The ideal website load time for mobile sites is 1-2 seconds. User Experience (UX): Always ensure easy navigation, clear calls to action, and a seamless checkout process on your site. A great UX keeps customers coming back. These aspects will not only help improve your site’s visibility in search engines but also provide a better experience for your customers. Remember, SEO is a slow-moving process, especially for those new to e-commerce or SEO. Patience leads to long-term benefits. Need help with your e-commerce SEO?
