Antibiotics save lives—until they don’t. Imagine a world where routine surgeries become life-threatening and minor infections turn deadly. This is the reality we face as a society if antimicrobial resistance continues to grow. This World Antibiotic Awareness Week, I’m proud to share my story through the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) campaign to highlight the importance of preserving these life-saving medicines. Taking part in this campaign was completely out of my comfort zone, but if it means making a change and encouraging others to take action, then so be it. Antibiotics are a privilege, not a guarantee. If we misuse them, we lose them—simple as that. 🎞 Watch the full video on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dhNC3tVh 📰 Read more about my story here: https://lnkd.in/dF6g4v_G #WAAW2024 #KeepAntibioticsWorking #AntimicrobialResistance #AMR #ECDC

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global challenge that threatens the effectiveness of life-saving antibiotics, the foundation of modern healthcare. 💊🌍 Gavin Schranz, an MSc in Digital Health graduate from the University of Malta, shared his personal story as part of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) campaign to raise awareness about AMR. Living with chronic kidney disease, Gavin has faced delays in life-saving procedures and prolonged hospital stays due to resistant infections. His journey highlights the profound impact of AMR on individuals and healthcare systems alike. Simple actions like proper hand hygiene and avoiding antibiotic misuse can make a big difference in preserving the effectiveness of antibiotics for future generations. 📽️ Watch Gavin’s powerful story and learn more about the fight against AMR. https://lnkd.in/d5WffU8e #AMR #AntibioticResistance #DigitalHealth #PublicHealth #UM #ShineAtUM

Recurrent mastitis cases, stressed tissue and biofilms: what is the connection? https://lnkd.in/dstYyEcM we briefly discussed how recurrence of intra-mammary infections and the fact that biofilms are less susceptible to antibiotic treatments can exacerbate the ongoing challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Combining prevention, control, responsible use of antibiotics with a non-antibiotic tool, such as OZOLEA-MAST, can provide the right protection and support for the mammary tissue and help reduce the occurrence of more severe cases on farms. Get in touch to know more about OZOLEA's innovative strategy against AMR!

1,3 million deaths annually. One of the top 10 global threats. Antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) is a silent yet increasingly urgent danger to global health. 🚨When bacteria no longer respond to antimicrobial treatments, we lose vital tools in the fight against infections. Antibiotics and other life-saving drugs become ineffective – with devastating consequences. 🔷 “Educate. Advocate. Act now.” 🔷 This is the theme of World AMR Awareness Week #WAAW, aiming to raise awareness of this critical issue and drive actionable solutions. A key strategy in combating antibiotic resistance lies in reducing the use of unnecessary antibiotics. This is where innovative technologies like #coldplasma come into play, offering powerful antibacterial effects and groundbreaking potential w/o causing resistances. 💡 With our innovative plasma jet technology, we are transforming #healthcare by enhancing wound treatment in in-patient and out-patient health care, while playing a crucial role in the fight against multidrug-resistant pathogens.

🛑 Antimicrobial Resistance in Europe: Progress or Peril? 🌍 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week: but what progress have we made so far? In 2024, the European Union continues its critical battle against antimicrobial resistance (AMR)—a growing global health threat. An infographic from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) sheds light on where we stand in achieving key targets for 2030. Here are the highlights: ✅ Antibiotic consumption by 2030 needs to be reduced by 20% in humans, but progress is stagnant with antibiotic consumption of 19.9 and 20.0 defined daily doses per 1,000 inhabitants in 2019 and 2023, respectively. 🚑 MRSA bloodstream infections have decreased by 17.6%, achieving the 15% reduction target. ⚠️ Challenges remain: - E. coli infections resistant to third-gen cephalosporins have dropped by 3.6%, on track to the 10% goal but there’s more work to be done. - Alarming increases (+57.5%) in carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae bloodstream infections show we still have much to do. 💡 Why this matters: Antimicrobial resistance could render life-saving treatments ineffective, posing a massive risk to global health systems. The EU's strategy is a beacon of hope but highlights the critical need for further innovation, collaboration, and action. 👉 What’s your take on these findings? Are we doing enough to tackle AMR globally, or do we need to accelerate our efforts? As we mark the start today of World AMR Awareness Week (#WAAW), it's crucial to recognise that antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) isn’t just a future threat; it’s a crisis happening now, with over a million lives lost annually. Tackling AMR requires urgent action through 💲 sustainable financing, 💊 equitable access to quality medicines, and 💡 robust innovation in research and development Hear from Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General at World Health Organization speak about the issue.
#AntimicrobialResistance doesn’t just threaten to make the medicines we depend on less effective in the future; it’s happening now. We’re not just talking about the risk of people dying from antibiotic-resistant infections; they’re dying now – over a million people every year. The threat of AMR is right here and right now, but so are the solutions: 1. We must increase sustainable financing, from both domestic and international sources. 2. We must increase equitable access to quality antimicrobial medicines, while ensuring appropriate use. 3. We must increase research, development, and innovation to address the dry antimicrobial pipeline.
