The U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) will proceed with Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) for the Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) program, the first-of-its-kind defensive countermeasure against hypersonic missile threats. Working in close partnership with MDA, the three-year developmental effort produced a purpose-built, innovative design capable of defeating existing and emerging hypersonic threats. In a decisive move, Israel’s Ministry of Defense has expedited the development of the Arrow-4 ballistic missile interceptor. Strengthening Security: U.S. and Gulf Cooperation Council Address Regional Threats "The region is experiencing one of its most challenging periods in recent years," stated a senior defense official on Monday. The official highlighted the pervasive threats from Iran and its proxies, citing 175 attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan, and over 90 Houthi attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea since October. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which includes the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait, met to discuss these threats. The U.S., represented by officials from the Joint Staff, U.S. Central Command, Naval Forces Central Command, Air Forces Central Command, the Missile Defense Agency, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, participated in working groups on maritime security and air and missile defense. In the maritime security group, discussions focused on Houthi attacks using anti-ship ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, UAVs, and unmanned surface and underwater vehicles, which jeopardize navigation and mariners' lives. The U.S.-led "Prosperity Guardian" mission, with over 24 participating nations, aims to counter these threats. The integrated air and missile defense working group addressed the significant missile launches by Iran and its proxies on April 13. The successful defense against these attacks underscored the importance of regional cooperation and integrated defense systems. The discussions aim to improve U.S. and GCC interoperability, enhance early warning systems, and ensure regional peace and security.
