Removing transit routes between key hubs amidst a housing crisis where many are unable to live nearby their place of work/study, leading to an even longer transit time, shows a serious disconnect between corporate planning and the reality of many people's lives. An extension to the delay, or an (even better) cancellation of the proposed line removal, is key until better transport options or increased housing availability become a reality in Dublin.
In recent months, we’ve heard from numerous UCD students rely on the 145 bus route from Heuston Station to Belfield. The upcoming changes under BusConnects Phase 6A will impact not only students but staff who commute from outside Dublin as well. Some of the discourse around the rollout of the new BusConnects phase has suggested that we are opposing the roll-out of the Spines or 24/7 routes., but this is not the case. We fully recognise their importance and the long-term benefits they bring to the city. However, the removal of the 145 route will cause a material disimprovement for anyone commuting to UCD via Heuston. Disembarking from one mode of public transport, especially during rush hour in Dublin, and transferring to another adds unnecessary strain to already long commutes. For many, this change also introduces accessibility challenges, making it harder to get to campus safely and efficiently. We are asking for your help in amplifying this message. Please take a moment to read, share, and sign our petition. Your support would mean a great deal to members of the UCD community who travel from Kildare, Carlow, Offaly, Kilkenny, Laois, Waterford and beyond.

ATTENDANCE STILL A CONCERN The latest DfE data on 'live' attendance (with some caveats therefore) makes fascinating reading. It shows that for secondary schools there are many parts of the country where 90% attendance is not yet the norm. In fact there are 28 local authorities were it is below 90%, spread right across the nation but especially in more urban areas. Middlesbrough, Knowsley, Bradford and Bristol 'top' the list (or should I say 'bottom' it). In Middlesbrough absence is 11.7%, so of every two pupils one is missing just over a day a week. There seems to be real concern in Middlesbrough where academisation has been in place for a very long time but has not lifted the area - see previous discussions about suspensions and exclusions! Despite this, it is the South-West that is the worst performing region. Of course this is not a new pattern, but as a region attendance barely scrapes 90%. What is noticeable here is that three shire counties are under 90% - Devon, Cornwall and Somerset whilst Dorset barely scrapes over that mark. Worse than North Somerset (which has its challenges) and Swindon. So Devon is worse than any LA in the often maligned East Midlands and worse, amazingly, than a place like Nottingham. In fact worse than Rochdale, Manchester, Bury.....etc. Worse than NE Lincolnshire on 89.5%. Since Covid, patterns have got very strange.....92% looks a long way off for many schools. #attendance #schools

Most people think that to get into a career you love, you have to follow the ‘system’ – the usual choices that many people make to get qualified. Unfortunately, you may choose a place to study based on its reputation instead of its benefits. This can lead to a disappointing experience that lacks depth and support – only to end up with no job confidence. At Bedford, we believe education shouldn't be institutionalised, inflexible and impersonal. And it shouldn’t be unsupportive and unproductive, leaving students unprepared. Education is not a system. You are not a number. At Bedford, we believe in transforming education – education that is empowering, effective, and all-encompassing. Enrolments for Term 3 are now open, so to enrol or to ask about flexible study options, get in touch on enquire@bedford.edu.au or call 1300 174 174 We believe in you. #BedfordSydney #BedfordCollege #TransformingEducation RTO code: 90301 CRICOS code: 01589B

Did you know that most Higher Education institutions can purchase through cooperative contracts? Cooperatives like OMNIA are working to increase their role in this space. Some universities have their own contracts, but if they're state-funded, they can often use state contracts. Before you dive into any opportunity, make sure you know how they’ll procure!
