🔍 Exploring the second R: Reconcile. In our journey of navigating challenging situations, we often find ourselves resorting to reconciling issues rather than addressing them head-on. Let’s delve into how this tendency can impact organizations and relationships, and why it’s crucial to shift towards a more proactive approach. Reconcile: The second of the three R’s, where instead of confronting issues, we tend to accept them and hope they’ll resolve on their own. This often leads to problems being shifted around rather than truly addressed. Shifting Issues: In organizations, problems are sometimes moved to different departments without addressing the root cause, hoping that a change in environment will solve them. However, this rarely leads to effective resolution. Negative Rectification: Attempting to rectify issues through forceful means such as anger, control, or domination only exacerbates the problem and damages relationships. Moving Towards Response: Instead of resorting to running, reconciling, or rectifying, the goal is to respond effectively to challenges without worsening the situation or harming relationships. Big issues take time to discuss. Big issues take space. Big issues take respect and vulnerability. You can't just say...you have 10 minutes for personal reflection and then 15 minutes to talk about it in a group using these conversation cards. Well I guess you can--if you want to check the box--that yes--you talked about this big issue. But guess what? No--we didn't talk about this big issue--the discussion we had were how we were not doing this big issue justice--how we were skirting around it--how this wasn't what we needed--how this conversation was a joke-how we were just wasting time. The conversations today were more of the same...WHY? What was the point? The box is checked...time to move on. I guess the goal has been met...but not to anyone's real satisfaction except for the people checking the box.
