I noticed that a speaker at the upcoming ASAE annual meeting has picked up on the "Could associations replace college" question that I first posed nearly a decade ago (https://lnkd.in/en7BhfeP ). It was a rhetorical question, but perception of higher ed value certainly does not seem to have improved much since, as this recent report from Gallup and the Lumina Foundation suggests. https://lnkd.in/eqU5ackY I'm still not of the view that colleges and universities have truly run their course (so to speak), but certainly the need for significant change remains and certainly we need to be taking a much more serious look at the alternatives - and association education programming, particularly in tandem with various forms of credentialing, certainly has an important role to play. Of course, I can't say I hear C-level association leaders speaking up any more vocally than than ever have on this issue and opportunity. Perhaps I'll hear it at the upcoming ASAE annual meeting? #associations #highered #valueofcollege
This is such an intriguing idea!
I would LOVE to see associations and their educational programming be just as expected/natural of a next step after high school as higher ed has been for so long. I know many talented people who never went to college or aren't doing anything remotely related to their degree... and I've met plenty of college grads who ain't all that even with an impressive educational pedigree. This shift could mean: - Fewer young adults starting off their careers with heavy debt. - More people entering the workforce sooner. - More time to gain expertise in one area or to try different career paths. Hope to see more in this direction!
