[ Taihan's news ] Taihan has signed a contract worth approximately 110 billion KRW with Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish national power grid operator, for a 420kV EHV power grid project. The 420kV power grid represents the highest voltage level for underground AC cables in Sweden. Given the high standards required to ensure the grid's stability and reliability, suppliers underwent a stringent selection process. Taihan's exceptional technical expertise, product quality, engineering capabilities, and project management proficiency secured Taihan's selection for the project. This award marks another significant achievement for Taihan in 2024, adding a major European project to its growing portfolio. Korean LS-VINA delivers 2,000 km of power lines to Vietnam LS Vina Cable Industrial Systems Company Limited, a joint venture of Vietnam-Hungary Machinery Company with South Korean LS Industrial Systems Company Limited (LSIS) and LS International Corporation, has successfully supplied around 2,000 km of overhead power lines to Vietnam Electricity (EVN). The cables are to be integrated into Vietnam’s primary power grid, which connects the northern and central regions of the country. The integration is particularly significant as EVN is constructing a new 500 kV transmission line to enhance electricity transfer from the central region to the north, where major international manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Amkor, and Foxconn are located. Lots of capacity coming on in the next few years... 👇 2025 - 2 x 340MW OCGT (Meranti) 2026 - 2 x 600MW CCGT (Keppel and Sembcorp) 2027 - 1 x 600MW CCGT (Seraya)  2029 - 1 x 600MW CCGT (New RFP) 2030 - 1 x 600MW CCGT (New RFP) That's not even including the imports that are meant to be coming in from 2028 onwards. Potentially a signal to energy-intensive industries like Semicons and DCs as well that Singapore is open for business. Interestingly, the demand projections have been revised down slightly since the previous RFP (picture attached in comments below)

Taiwan‘s MOEA held a briefing yesterday on the 3-2 Phase Auction, introducing a new criterion of an 8-year vessel age limit for construction vessels. Developers expressed concerns about the updated criteria, with several requesting an extension for bidding deadlines, while others advocated for maintaining the original schedule. According to the announcement, the current deadline for submissions is April 10th. Meanwhile Taiwan's power purchasing entities adopt a wait-and-see approach during CPPA negotiations, as they initially anticipate that the procurement prices in Phase 3-2 will be lower than those in Phase 3-1. Developers revealed that the average development cost for Phase 3-1 was about 40% higher than Phase 2-2, leading to escalating power purchase prices. TSMC has already signed a CPPA with Ørsted for 920MW of offshore wind power. However, TSMC's electricity consumption accounted for 7.5% of Taiwan's total in 2022, projected to rise to 12.5% by 2025. Even if all of Taiwan's planned offshore wind farms sold electricity to them , it wouldn't be sufficient. 💡 There's a pertinent question regarding the fairness of CPPA procurement and the accessibility for SMEs in Taiwan to participate in CPPA agreements. As Taiwan is primarily manufacturing-oriented, many factories have a demand for green energy. In an effort to reduce the risk of future electricity shortages and the nation’s reliance on coal-fired power, Vietnam earlier this month allowed major users to begin buying renewable energy directlyfrom developers, bypassing the state monopoly. Vietnam’s coal electricity output jumped to 86.3 billion kilowatt-hours this year through June, representing 57% of the nation’s power mix, up from 49.5% a year earlier.
