🎓 Semester 1 Highlights at TAFE Queensland – Road Design and Structural CAD Work 🎓
In my first semester at TAFE Queensland, I jumped into CAD design for civil and structural engineering, getting hands-on experience in road layout and structural detailing. Here’s a quick snapshot of what I worked on:
▪ ROAD SETOUT PLAN DRAWING
What I tackled:
-Divided the road layout based on the plan, drawing cross-section control lines and adding kerbs and channels.
-Learned how to draw the longitudinal section control line to make sure everything aligned with precision.
How I approached it:
Used Brisbane Standard Drawings (BSD - 2001) as my guide, overlaying survey data with the .dwg file to see how the new design interacted with the existing site.
▪FOOTING AND COLUMN DRAWING
What I tackled:
-Created detailed drafts for footing layouts, footing pads, columns, roof plans, portal frames, wall frames, and I-beam connections.
-Developed clear sectional views of columns, complete with dimensions, column types, and other key details.
▪How I approached it:
-Selected the right I-beam types and sizes for each section, adding bolts and stiffener plates for structural accuracy.
-Marked session points to label column and I-beam details according to industry standards, keeping everything organized and easy to follow.
It’s been a great experience so far, building a strong foundation in CAD and civil design. Excited to keep learning!
