The best way to improve your startup pitch is to practice. Seems obvious but I'd estimate that half of the pitches I hear suffer from these simple omissions: ✔ lack of a crisp message that is not overly complicated ✔ no clear narrative or story arc, jumps around randomly ✔ no clear vision / mission expressed - doesn't feel inspirational ✔ vitamin product not a pain killer - what's really different? ✔ lack of founder / market fit Lots of other stuff is important of course (like the substance of the pitch) but these are table-stakes in any great pitch. So, on Monday April 8th in NYC, join me and Sherveen Mashayekhi (one the best pitchers that I know) to practice your pitch and receive real time feedback. I can guarantee a lively and fun spirited event 🙌🏽 Sign up ➡ https://lnkd.in/ed8ctj9t

65% of startups fail due to co-founders conflict. Here's how we handle heated moments in 4 steps 💪 1. Take a moment. - Pause. Say “I need time to think”. - Step outside, look at the trees & breathe 2. Write everything down - Your assumptions. - How you feel. - The problem as you see it. - Your proposal. - What you can and can’t compromise on. 3. Schedule a chat. When ready, sit down with your co-founder. - Explain your assumptions. - Present your proposal. - Then: Listen. - Ask questions, revise your proposal, and repeat. The goal isn’t to “win” but to understand and solve the problem together. 4. Rinse and repeat. - If the tension persists, step back and try again. - Sometimes, a fresh perspective (a mentor or third party) can help + 1️⃣ Tip: Choose your co-founder wisely. My co-founder and I were high school friends. We lived in the same dorm, biked, ate, and played together. Knowing each other for a long time helps us navigate tough times. At the end of the day, it’s about prioritizing the company’s goals over personal interests and approaching conflicts with emotional intelligence. What is your approach to solving conflicts?

that's so important
We all have brave friends that have started businesses; Small gestures of support can be everything to them. Starting a small business can be hugely rewarding. But more often than not, the journey is: 💌 Emotional 😟 Stressful 🤺 Lonely Below are small acts of kindness that go a long way: 1/ Become a customer 2/ Attend any of their events 3/ Like their social media posts 4/ Reach out to see how they're doing 5/ Go easy on them if they are always busy 6/ Make helpful introductions to connections 7/ Celebrate their businesses publicly when you can - - - ⬇️ If you have a friend that you are particularly proud of; ⬇️ Tag them or their businesses in the comments below. They say your customers become your friends, before your friends become your customers. Let's help change that narrative (and start by not asking for 'mates rates'!) Thank you to my friend Chris Donnelly for bringing this important topic to life! ♻ Repost this today to give your founder friends the support they need. ************************************************ 📌 Follow me, Asif Ahmed for more insights. 📌 I advise venture backed founders of early stage start-ups.

Honest insights, whether they be from a fellow founder, an investor or an exited entrepreneur, are one of the most useful tools for a founder. In reality, getting these insights can be easier said than done. So how do we bring it to life at VenturePath? Well, both through being intentional about the connections we facilitate and through no-holds-barred conversations with other members of the ecosystem. Encouraging open conversations between different stakeholders is a key part in creating more scaleup successes.

The best founders I've worked with are brutally honest with themselves. They know their strengths, but more importantly, they know their weaknesses. And they're not afraid to talk about them. They say things like: "I know I need to get better at delegating." "I struggled with financial models, so I took a course." "I work with a public speaking coach." This level of self-awareness is gold. It shows me you're coachable, adaptable, and committed to personal growth. Remember, as your startup scales, you need to scale too. The skills that got you here won't necessarily get you there.
