The secret to a great resume is to give the reader what they want. And nothing more. That's it. The end. Question is….. how? 1. Always have an audience in mind *before* you write a resume. A specific job target will keep content focused. 2. Use the job posting as a guide to identify job requirements, skills, and qualifications. Then work to address these in the resume. 3. Share results, results, and more results. They matter in a resume. A lot! 4. Don't add details to the resume just because YOU like them. Nope. The resume may be all about you, but it isn't meant for you. 5. Be ruthless and cut out anything unrelated. The jobs you held 15 to 20 years ago? They likely don't need much mention, if at all. 6. Keep it easy to read. This matters because if a resume is hard to follow, it runs the risk of key details not being spotted or read at all. 7. Finally, it's ok to be brief and succinct. In a resume, less can be more. You don't need copious examples to prove your value; a few strong, well-aligned statements will get your point across. Most common mistakes people make while writing their #resume Generic Resumes: Sending same resume for every job application may not effectively highlight your suitability for a specific role. Tailor your resume as per the job requirements and responsibilities. Inconsistent Formatting: Maintain a consistent format throughout your resume. Use the same font, bullet point style, and heading format to create a polished and professional appearance. Too Long or Too Short: Aim for a concise resume that highlights your most relevant experiences. While there's no strict rule on length, a one to two-page resume is generally acceptable for most professionals. Lack of Action Verbs: Use strong action verbs to describe your achievements and responsibilities. This adds impact to your statements and showcases your accomplishments more effectively. Overused Phrases: Avoid clichés and overused phrases that don't provide meaningful information. Use specific examples and quantify your achievements where possible. Listing Job Duties Instead of Achievements: Instead of just listing your job duties, focus on showcasing your achievements and contributions in each role. Quantify your accomplishments to demonstrate your impact. Including Unverified Claims: Be honest in your resume. Avoid exaggerating or making false claims about your skills or experiences. Employers may verify information during the hiring process. Focusing too much on responsibilities, not achievements: While it's important to mention your job responsibilities, placing more emphasis on your achievements/ contributions will make your resume more compelling. Using an Outdated Resume Format: Keep your resume format up-to-date. Using an outdated template may make your application appear less professional. Here are some steps to take when crafting your resume experience: 1. Be specific: Don't just list your job duties or generic accomplishments. Instead, describe your responsibilities and achievements in detail. For example, instead of saying "Managed a team of sales representatives," say "Led a team of 5 sales representatives to exceed monthly revenue targets by 25%." 2. Use action verbs: Start each bullet point with an action verb to make your accomplishments more engaging. Some examples include "Achieved," "Implemented," "Developed," "Improved," and "Streamlined." 3. Quantify your achievements: Numbers are a powerful way to show your impact. Use metrics to demonstrate your accomplishments, such as the revenue generated, percentage increase, or number of clients served. 4. Tailor your experience to the job you're applying for: Make sure your experience aligns with the job description and showcases the skills and experience required for the position. You don't have to include every job you've ever had; only include relevant experience. 5. Proofread and edit: Nothing hurts your credibility more than typos or errors. Make sure to proofread your experience section multiple times and have a friend or mentor review it as well. Send your resume at info@careerexpertoz.com for a #Free_Review. 🚨 Stop Adding These to Your CV! 🚨 Your CV is your professional identity, and irrelevant details can hurt your chances. Here’s what to avoid: 1️⃣ Marital Status – It’s outdated and unnecessary. 2️⃣ Secondary & Higher Secondary School Details – Skip it unless you’re a fresher (then it’s mandatory). 3️⃣ Date of Birth – Not required in most cases. 4️⃣ Religion or Caste – Keep it professional; it’s irrelevant to your skills. 5️⃣ Hobbies – Unless it’s directly related to the job (e.g., travel for a travel agent role), leave it out. 6️⃣ ID Numbers – Personal details like ID numbers don’t belong on your CV. 7️⃣ Irrelevant Work Experience & Skills – Focus on roles and skills that match the job you’re applying for. 🚀 Pro Tip: A clean, concise CV increases your chances of standing out to recruiters. Don’t let irrelevant details overshadow your true potential! #JobSearch #CVTips #CareerGrowth 💼✨

How often should you update your resume? If you are also someone who is also confused around this topic, let me help you ! Is it when you start applying for jobs? Is it when you do a new job? Is it every 2 years? The Answer is NO ❌ The best solution is to keep a MASTER RESUME ! A master resume is a comprehensive document that includes all of your work experiences, skills, accomplishments, and education. Unlike the tailored resumes you submit for specific job applications, a master resume serves as a detailed record of your entire career. This can be updated monthly. It doesn't need proper resume points also, just a basic description of the new updates work. This ensures you have a complete record of everything without missing out on anything. It also helps you to curate a more focused and specific resume whenever required. What's your take on this do share in the comments? Follow Palak Gupta for more such content!
